Well it 130bhp and a kerb weight of 1040kg??

But mine had a rolling road day back in 2008 at was 146bhp, it was before my time, so i dont really know whats been done, it goes well.
I don't know how to work it out? Ha ha

EDIT........Its worked out at 8:1,

This means that for every 8 pounds of weight on your vehicle, you have 1 horsepower.

Well done, you got there in the end.

Should be a nice car, which you got cheap.

I only paid 1k for mine 2 years ago, but mine is not as clean as yours bodywork wise.

How you getting on with it? Feel fast?

I haven't sorted out insurance yet, so i've only dared to take it a few yards down a lane in the night. But yep, it feels great!

One of the sidelights just blew. Bugger! I think there are spares in the boot though.

The ACF (which i've had confirmed stands for Active Carbon Filter) is £48 + VAT from Desira, but if I do need a new one for the MOT (which I don't think i will), i'll probably get one 2nd hand. I've never heard of anyone else having problems with them, so an old one shouldn't give any bother i guess. Apparently it's a sort of black box which is quite easy to replace, but as yet i don't know.

I've checked the MOT rules. Until 31st March, an airbag warning light only counts as an advisory. After that, it'll be a failure.

So after March, thousands more perfectly decent cars will be flooding into scrapyards all over the country. Thank you Brussels for increasing consumerism and making Europe that little bit less sustainable.

Normally you express it as bhp/tonne. So, best is just shy of 146bhp/tonne. Relatively easy meat for a Cinq 1.4 16v with nearly 160bhp/tonne. :D

Conclusion!

Yesterday I took the vehicle to Desira to get them to code in the keys. On the phone they said that would be fine and might get round the problem, but when i got there they said that they would need to carry out another diagnosis first.

The verdict? The new engine ECU had cured part of the problem. But the body computer was different from the one in the car when they scanned it in November, and this one was faulty (as well as being not coded with the keys). Desira were sick of it and said they wouldn't charge me anything so long as they didn't see the vehicle again.

So I set about tracking down the original body computer. No one recalls switching it over, but after a bit of detective work, it turned out that the guy who i bought it off who runs the breakers yard remembered there being something in the boot. Sure enough, he found the body computer in a box in his garage, i fitted it in the dark this evening, and hey presto! It started immediately!

Everything works apart from the airbags, the cd autochanger and an emissions valve, or something - but it doesn't look or smell smokey so (touch wood) it may pass its impending MOT. Gear change is slick, steering is light, brakes are tight, no knocking, rattling or grinding, engine is really smooth... i'm dead chuffed!

Total spend £800. I estimate it to be worth c. £1200, maybe more if i can find an engine cover and sort the airbags. And it passed between four garages before being taken to scrap! Having been abandoned by so many people, i'm going to be just a bit smug when i take it back to Desira for an MOT. But to be honest, i'm just lucky that original body computer hadn't been chucked away.

As my 1968 Land Rover has never heard of airbags, i'm assuming that they're not an MOT requirement, but i'd be grateful for some confirmation...

Fantastic! All this messing around because the original owner/4 garages/ scrap dealer didn't believe the (correct) Dealer diagnosis of a failed Engine ECU, and settled on fitting a random Body Computer instead.

Also, it kinda goes against the "all Dealers are after your wallet" theory that goes around here, considering the amount of info and help they've given you, including a free diagnosis. (y)

What airbag errors are you getting? Most HGT's had side airbags, and it's common for a simple bad connection under the front seats to put the light on when they're slid back and forth a few times. It's a simple 5 minute fix to correct it though.

Was the emissions fault with the charcoal canister, or the evap. control valve? They're not common for playing up, but a sticking-open evap valve usually causes running faults.

:)

I'm getting the red warning light for the driver's airbag and the orange one for the passenger's airbag. I've tried switching that on and off with the key but it makes no difference. Thanks for the tip about the connection under the seats. I'll have a look at that because I think the previous garages did a bit of pulling around with those wires.

As for the emissions fault, the dealer called it an Active Carbon Filter (ACF). According to my fault reader, there can be three fault codes relating to this - 'open', 'closed', or 'fault', and my code says 'fault'. Desira quoted me £48 + VAT for a new one, but I'm still not positive if it'll need a new one. The exhaust doesn't look or smell smokey at all and it runs perfectly. Hell, I don't even know what the ACF looks like! Apparently it's just a black box, but couldn't find it.

It's booked for an MOT next thursday. I've taken the plunge and decided to sell it! Really don't want to, but cash is tight at the moment so something has to go and I'd hate to part with my Panda or Land Rover :( Any profit I make will be spent getting the Panda back on the road after 18 months in the garage. (I'm having trouble getting that to run at the moment - I think the timing isn't right. I might start a new thread on the forum if I don't find a cure soon.)

I'll be selling the Punto through eBay and will post a link here when it's on.

Sounds like the airbag fault could be the usual exclusion switch fault if the amber lamp is unresponsive. You can flick the switch out and try tightening the terminals as a quick fix, but it may come back on eventually without the wiring mod.

Carbon canister is mounted under the front wing. If you find a thin, blue plastic pipe and follow it it should lead you to it (I think it's under the driver's side wing from memory). The valve itself is usually attached to the inlet manifold with a 2-pin connector. It doesn't do a great deal normally, but causes issues if it's stuck open, so it may just be that yours is clogged or stuck closed so it's not venting the vapour.

im sure i can actuate these on fes
or is it just the 16 valves i can do

Don't know. We could do an active diagnosis on the valve via Examiner on any model, but I don't know about FES.
