Hi

I have a new 500 Sport with Blue & Me. Don't want to pay Fiat the eye-watering £71 just for the privilege of playing my ipod classic in the car. Are there alternative cheaper dongles that do the job just as well?

Not unless you want to loose the rest of the B&M functionality?

Yes I hear you say? Ok there is a FIAT/Alfa iPod adapter for Non B&M cars that you can use, IIRC its about £50 or look for a connects2 adapter (Again similarly priced). This will let you control the iPod from the steering wheel also as it acts as a CD changer. iPod will also charge.

Next up is just a cheap aux input lead, maybe £5 but no steering control, no charging etc. Theres a guide on this in the GP guides, but is valid for the 500.

Failing that, we have a long standing group buy arranged with Chris@Souls from Souls FIAT in MK.

Super Chris will post you one for £65. (May change a touch due to VAT increase)

Thanks very much for your reply.

Do you use the adaptor yourself? Is it a case of just plug in and play and bob's your uncle?

Yeah I use it everyday with the iPhone. Since your saying its a NEW (59?) 500 Sport then its literrally plug and play.

Some older cars will be a few versions of B&M behind in which case you'll need to download the update for 5.4 and then apply this before plugging in your adapter.

Either way its fairly simple, and the dealer may apply the update for you if your on good terms.

Chris from Souls sorted me out with one for 65. it came in less than 24hours and works great. I have a 59 Fiat 500 Lounge and it works great I can flick through playlists, albums, artists directly form the steering wheel. the only thing sit doesn't recognise is podcasts but then neither did my Alpine in my old car the simple way round this is put your podcasts in a playlist and that way it works fine. No complaints form me works with my iPhone, Nano and Classic without any probes and the classic has 160gb of music on it. Even if there was a cheaper option I'd still go for this as it works best.

Thanks all

One more question - can you select tracks using the ipod's menu options or does it all have to be from the Blue & Me controls?

I got my adaptor via Chris. He's fab!

Reading this though I realise I haven't played around enough with my ipod and adapter properly. I can change tracks using my steering wheel, but I don't see how I can change playlists and albums. I'm probably being really thick here.
