General Blue Barchetta Project

I bought a beautiful Fujimi kit from ebay recently, it has the original Fiat alloys just like my car. I get to build and paint it myself so will have all the right colours in all the right places (just need to find about 15 hours to do the job!). I have no photo of the kit but a bit of googling turned up this fella that has built one and blogged about it.

Nothing exciting - just a new number plate holder on the front as the old one was rusting through, again. The B was looking good so I took a couple of pics. New stainless plate holder weighs about half as much as the old one.

Can anyone help? I have removed the screws from the gas tank cover but it does not come off easily. It feels like it is sealed on. Does anyone have any experience of removing the cover? How did you take it off once the screws are removed?

Have you removed all of the bolts? Even those behind the B-pillar fairings?

Thanks Afroking, I am pretty sure that I have removed all the bolts. I don't know if there is anything behind the storage box between the seats. If all bolts are removed, does it just pull away easily?

Aha! You need to remove the storage box. Just four screws under the little piece of rubber at the bottom (if you have it still) and one single screw under the handbrake. Once you remove that I believe there are one or two more bolts and it should lift away.

Thanks so much. I was wondering why it wouldn't come out. (y)

This project seems to be taking forever. There are bits of B rattling around in the garage. There is always bad weather or my little boy stopping me from getting it done. Maybe at the weekend I can sort it out. Can't wait to have the rear speakers installed now.

At last after much anger and pain I have got the speaker box installed behind the seats with a new carpet covering. I still have to wire it in to the head unit. This was an absolute nightmare project and my wife who helped me was not happy. :(

I took out the gas tank cover and lined it with felt for sound deadening, I drilled holes for the speaker box to be screwed in and stuck bolts to the underside of the metal. I then threaded the speaker cable through. Studded in the new carpet and screwed the speaker box down.

I cannot wait to get it wired in now. :yum:

At last, its all finished. The speaker box is wired in, rear drilled and grooved brake discs fitted (thanks to LB Autos) and new gas struts fitted to hood mechanism (thanks to advice from HP.).

Having the extra speakers makes a huge difference to the sound, especially with hood down.

Excuse the poor pic.

I can't afford the time or money for many mods these days. Back in the summer I fitted new gas strut in the boot. My latest upgrade is quilted leather interior door cards and handles (from www.barchettaparts.com). I will post pics soon.

I just need to replace the plastic round the door open pulls. These are a pain to get off. Do I need to have the door lock pushed in to do this?

The idea has been to add in some of the parts from the limited edition B to mine. I just need leather seats now. I would love the quilted ones but any would be okay - just so hard to find on a budget.

Thanks Steve, the arm rest and door pull on drivers door are leather finished the same as the trim. I see what you mean about suede. The picture isn't very good really.

The old door trim that I removed had no pocket. There was only a pocket on the drivers side. These new leather trims have pockets on both sides.
