My blue and me stopped working this week and now my mileage is flashing on my dashboard. I read some posts on here that suggested that if I unplugged it this would solve the issue. I found it today and unplugged it but the mileage is still flashing. I was hoping to avoid the proxy alignment and previous posts suggested that I wouldn’t need to unless I was replacing with a new one (which I’m not). Is there a way to reset without the proxy alignment?

I'll be very interested in the answer to this. I believe the recommendation, if you're going to do the proxy alignment, is to record/store a copy of existing settings before carrying out the procedure because it does a wipe before starting so if it fails you're in deep doo doo. I don't know how to do this. On the other hand you could just send the Blue and me away to one of the repair specialists who, I've read, repair it using upgraded components where needed and issuing a very long - lifetime? - guarantee and return it to you. The great thing is that because it's your original unit it's a "plug and play" when you get it back. My boy's 2014 Punto started flashing it's mileage display and also suffering parasitic battery drain. We were going to send it for repair but it got written off before we could do it - not his fault.

Hi there; unplugging prevents the parasitic battery drain caused by the module failing (more often or not) in the "on" status the CanBus continues to search for the B&M module address and so continues to report a fault (flashing odo). My experience was that this could not be eliminated by a realignment as I believe the BCM cannot have its parameters altered, this is only my experience and I was in the hands of the FIAT Workshop who I trust. I wasn't fussed by the flashing or the lack of B&M but did in the end acquire a secondhand B&M module from an Alfa and plugged it in and all was well with no proxi alingment or other intervention required.

You need to run a proxi alignment with the B&M unit unplugged. If done correctly with MES, the system will remap all the "live" addresses on the CAN bus and that will be your new normal. As the B&M unit is no longer present, it won't be mapped "out", it will simply not be mapped "in".

I am not quite sure why @Panda IIs had trouble with this at the Fiat Workshop either as they ought to know what they are doing...

I agree that this sounds like a reasonable and logical solution; as much as I rate them at Royston (FIAT Workshop) perhaps I was pushing the limit of their experience at the time - they were just emerging from the Alfa Workshop shadow? This was probably 4-5 years ago now and I have since noticed there are many more repair options available these days.

Just deciding whether I pay to have the current B&M unit repaired £49.99 even though I don’t use it or to pay for Multiscanecu £124 and do a proxi alignment. I know the latter is more expensive but I was thinking of getting it anyway to see if my car has an error codes stored. Having a few issues with the car so thought it might be useful. Just out of interest does the free version read codes? I know it won’t do the proxi alignment

The free version will read and clear codes - but only for certain modules. Check the MES site for more info.

If you want to get started for less, just buy the licence for 50 euros and get a compatible interface off ebay. This will get you going but if you plan on keeping the car for any length of time buying the Gendan kit will give you everything you need - you won't regret it.

I bought the MES full kit for £130 and also paid £80 for an old Win laptop I've rarely used the set up. I only use it reset the service coupon when I change the oil/service.

BTW, I paid £95 to have the B&M module repaired about 18 months ago.

That was pricey. There are quite a few online offering the repair for £49-60. Mind you I have no idea how good they are

I might get the €50 version and the cables off eBay.

As a temporary solution, to prevent battery discharge, I made a remote switch for the fuse. The fuse is responsible for the radio, Blue&me,
and the the power supply of the OBD connector. It came three years after the introduction of a temporary solution ;-).

Possibly easier just to unplug the B&M module under the Driver's seat (Right hand drive version)?

Yes, I thought that too. I have unplugged mine but of course still need to fix the flashing odometer but that can wait
Yeah, I'm interested to find out if you can programme out the B&M module and fix the flashing without replacing the module. By the way I had an email from an outfit called ACTRONICS near Colchester offering B&M repair too - don't know the price but as I think you (@euroben ) are in Spain these days that's not much help? I do still have my old broken B&M module which I would offer you if it helps to get it fixed here and then maybe a visitor to you could transport? Just thinking laterally...

Thanks, that’s really kind of you but I’m going to leave mine unpluggged and try and do the proxy alignment when my cables arrive. I will update this post when I have done it to say whether it is possible or I wrecked my car.

No worries; do update with an outcome.

I actually left my B&M unplugged for a year or so - I found the previous FIAT USB plug entertainment setup on ebay for £20 so fitted that (it plugs straight into the head unit). I added the secondhand B&M unit to stop the flashing odo, hence my interest, I didn't plug it into the head unit so it has no function other than to stop the flashing :ROFLMAO:

I think it won't be enough. Without performing the Proxy procedure, the system will search for the disconnected unit and consume battery power. At the same time, the trick with the fuse off turned out to be a working temporary solution.

Hi, no, my experience is that this works. It is the failed Blue & Me module that creates the drain since it typically fails "on". The BCM only "looks" for the CanBus addresses when the car is turned on and the system initialises the failed unit cannot be found so this creates the flashing odometer fault indication. You have to disconnect the B&M module under the seat from its multipin plug. Just unplugging it from the Radio head unit does not remove the module power supply (and therefore the battery drain remains).
