Technical Blown engine on 2009 fiat 500

Hi, my brothers fiat 500 1.4 petrol. 2009 model overheated and now needs another engine. Should I take the engine and Gearbox out in one lump or take the engine out separately. Haven’t done one of this model before.

Depends on what equipment you have, generally I'd say separately for easy if you only have DIY tools, though I recommend using a hoist to remove the engine, you can hire them.

Thanks for the reply. I have an engine hoist so would be easy enough to lift it out in one lump. There doesn’t seem to be enough room to split the engine and gearbox in situ. I would like to take the compressor off before the engine comes out as I don’t want to break into to aircon system.
