Hi guys,My Cinquecento sporting's clutch is very bitey and has been since I've had it! I've changed the clutch cable with some improvement but it still seems quite vigorous! Will it be a new clutch needed?

I will try that,I replaced the cable because i thought it would be tight and therefore bitey :p just wanted to know are anyone else's clutches like this?

My clutch on one of my Seicentos is like that. Makes the car judder when pulling off. I changed both gearbox mounts which helped some what, but I put the problem down to using a cheaper make clutch. It's not as bad now after a few K/miles on it.

The clutch should be feather light but is a diaphragm spring so will have a limited travel between biting and slipping - if you were used to coil spring clutches - which are never used nowadays?

It should be easy to drive with and get clean gear changes.

The release mechanism is a bodge for left hand drive and frys the release bearing this bearing seizes and then destroys the spring tines.

This can make the pedal heavier or squeaky, they don't wear out they fail with a bang...

It's not very progressive it seems to get to the bite, then it's into gear. No control to it

the problem may be the engine has limited torque at tickover and you need to release and accelerate at same time for quick away from lights.

It is similarly difficult in the three cylinder Citroens.

If you are coming from larger auto it may take a while, most people want to fit the 866 cam.

If the clutch pedal is amazing light then adjust it per the manual otherwise save for new clutch kit cable sector and release arm just in case. You can replace in side street with stands and trolly jack.

I'm currently learning to drive,I have driven a few other cars(polos, fiestas and such) and they were all fairly easy (progressive) on the clutch. Thanks guys ill try and adjust the cabe again and if not new clutch it is! :)

Well the news is not that bad the Sei will be more difficult than some other autos but easier than a Citroen C1s.

The clutch needs adjusting to allow it to have a reasonable service life. The adjustment wont make driving in traffic any easier for you.

If the clutch were on the way out it gets heavier or makes strange noises, the cable snaps or other parts in the linkage between the pedal and the clutch fail.

what you need to do is to not use the clutch e.g. when waiting for lights to change or for gap in traffic. It is not a good idea on any vehicle.

The more exact description of the problem is that that part of the release bearing is plastic and melts when it overheats so the release bearing turns into a milling machine and wears away the clutch spring.

My Sei made 65k miles with girly drivers at least one of which had L plates, so it is tolerant to a degree.

Id save up money and learn auto maintenance.
