Okay,so I use BikeBins on one of my bikes.

waterproof and lockable.
handy
however I want to secure them to the bike, but leave the option of removal.
(a pair were recently stolen in Edinburgh, but thankfully the thieves were intercepted nearby)

so looking at the rear. there are the holes by the blue catches.
that panel is removable
I can run a bolt in one of the holes and remount.
my idea is attach wires with loop ends/cable ends??
like this,but obviously much smaller
so one end is attached to the bike bin and the other end is loose with a loop.
4 wires with loops, slipped onto a padlock on the panner rack.
the bikebin is plastic and the rack is simply bolted to the bike.
so if someone wants the bin, they will get it
I just want to make it trickier than simply unclipping them.

so anyone got a better idea. know where I can get short looped wires(or make them?) etc?

cant you just put a padlock on the carrying handles and a chain?
or dremal some box out for a padlock down near bottom
how removable do you want em.
a bolt on idea simulat to the batterybox on my car.
a bit of 1.6mm metal about the length of the side drill holes in each end and bolt on though the plastic, for extra security add another strip of metal to inside once centres have been worked out.
fasten on with great difficulty

Where the two blue catches are attached to the bar with the holes... is it possible to put a padlock behind that bar? I'm thinking one of those padlocks with the long shackles. This will then lock the bin to the rack.
Alternatively, there are alarms which have a long wire that must be connected into the box at either end to complete a circuit. If the circuit is broken without turning the alarm off, the alarm makes no end of noise & the wire is quite strong so not that easy to cut.

theres no real room for padlocks really
bearing in mind its position on the rack. etc
hence having wires to allow access to lock/unlock
no real need for alarms etc
I don't leave the bike for long.
mainly for times like outside the gym
for anyone that knows. the Bin can be removed one handed.

the small plastic bit for the padlock etc could be easily twised/broken.
its just thin plastic
the lock is simply to stop people opening and rifling through the contents

There's a simple solution already built into the design of them according to the website(http://bikebins.com).

Take a look at the spec page(http://bikebins.com/spec2.html) on their site, the handle is designed to allow a bike lock to be threaded through it for security purposes. If yours isn't long enough you could always purchase another specifically for securing the bins. Would be a very good visual deterrent to IMO.

That's a very bad design if they are just rubber, the weight of the bins contents could cause a plain rubber handle to snap over time so perhaps they are rubber coated wire cable? Would make sense if the manufacturer recommends they are used for securing the bins to the bike?

the handle isnt really a regular use item
fro long carrying,a strap os included
there isnt really a securing to the bike option from them
the bin is designed to be fairly easily removed/mounted (you can do it one handed if needed)
for me the pros outweighed the cons
I just want to make it a little less easy to remove
mainly for being at the gym
where I lock it,I cant see the bike
not a huge issue where it is,but as it stands if someone knew bike bns
they could remove it easily
so a cable (for example) would give me a point ot lock it to the bike
not impossible to remove, but probably enough to put someone off a quick grab
plus being in the pannier rack, its not easily seen
