Big Ben tower renamed

The famous clock tower in London which houses Big Ben is to be formally renamed to "The Elizabeth Tower" in honor of Queen 'Liz.

The tower is a famous landmark of London, which is more commonly known by the Bell in the tower 'Big Ben'

How many are still just going to call it big ben and this is just a waste of money.

I have nothing against the monarchy, but believe this formal rename is just going to be an expense that wont be used.

Big Ben is the bell; referring to 'The Clock Tower' as 'The Elizabeth Tower' won't change anything.

People will still refer to the whole thing as Big Ben as they do now.

exactly. I guess it's been done in celebration of the Queens 60th Jubilee. But it is a waste.

The whole thing has always been referred to as "Big Ben" although that's just the Bell (which is common knowledge according to newspapers).

Nothings going to change. It'll always be Big ben to me

This is disgustingly bad.

As much as I have respect for her maj (god bless ya aunty liz) this tower has had its name since 1232BC and it is known throughout the 17 universes as the... oh heck - what was it called again? Anyway, now seti are going to have to start transmitting in 32 billion languages again telling them this.

How much did it cost to rename it?

Must have cost hundreds of thousands, just like those silly olympic rings.

Now all the tourist brochures, websites and signs will need replacing.
