Best and worst looking Fiat cars?

I had the chance to go out on the track in one (Fiat dealership day out, mainly to see the Fiat Challenge). I think the instructor was more scared than I was, it wasn’t at any great speed and wasn’t meant to be a racing lap. The steering was VERY heavy and you were careful not to push it, quick but twitchy and that was just the sphincter…Definitely one for the bank.

Ooh you'd hope there would be a nice photo to go with that

There was someone from Fiat taking photos, I had one of those 110 cameras and I took loads of the Fiat Challenge, the stratos, and the touring cars, including the Alfa 155 and a privateer Delta. I think I’ve still got them somewhere, but a lot of my photos went astray after my divorce. If I find them I’ll post them!

I've always liked the look of the Alfa 155, especially the widebody, I very nearly bought an 1985 C reg series 1 Alfa 33 when I was 18, it was a 1 owner car with only 35k on it, it was up for £900 & it was that mint you could have eaten your dinner of it, outside & inside looked brand new, all original floors with not a single dot of rot & no signs of any welding or filler, I scraped the money together & walked into the Alfa specialist which was near me & said I was interested in the 33 outside, he went you've just missed it mate, I sold it half hour ago, to say I was gutted was an understatement 😂

Some of the 33s used to shed their driveshaft bolts, whether or not they had thread lock and spring washers on. You’d see the same cars come back every year, some did it, others didn’t

Where and when would you drive your best looking car?

For me a late summers evening in the countryside would be great!
Here's the thing for me: I admire the styling of the 130 coupe...

...but I wouldn't be all that bothered about driving it. A bit big and heavy for my tastes.

Give me a small light fun car - even if it's ugly! - on a twisting country road any day. Preferably a coast road.

In my neck of the woods I'll nominate the R477 from Doolin to Ballyvaughan past Black Head and The Burren.

It's a bit narrow and bumpy for a 130 coupe, I think I'd have much more fun in the Panda. Or @FiatMatt94 's battered Cinq :D

Original X1/9 was a pretty little thing, speaking as someone who likes that era of angular design.

Original Multipla I really like also (no, not trolling) as a completely uncompromised design.

Worst? Any of the utterly anonymous designs of the 90s and 00s, too numerous to single out just one.

Worst Looking:
500X(worst Fiat I've driven)
I'm not talking to you again :) Worst in what way? Remember there is a post length limitation :)

Meanwhile Having had a Coupe 20V and currently a Barchetta I have to go retro!

Fiat 850 Coupe

I think for it's time / era there were not other similar rear engined cars. I think the nearest would be a 911 but that style and line wise looked like a half sucked "peardrop" sweet.

VW Beetle ...... no competition

Of course Roots / Singer in the UK had the Imp Coupe and Chamois but they are not Italian.

A friend of mine has one & I went for a drive down the road in it, it's the 1.6 etorq engine, the gear change is notchy & clunky, the ride wasn't very impressive & everything just felt cheap with it, I wasn't very impressed with the whole car overall, it's not one of Fiat's finest moments I'm afraid, it could be worse though, it could be a multipla lol 😂😂, the coupe though is a beautiful car, a 20v Turbo is one on my bucket list cars

You should have driven the Cross Plus. 1.4 Turbo, 140BHP, tows like a train, handling excellent, smooth and precise gear change. My only complaint like all modern cars is too much electronics, electric park brake, gizmo this, gizmo that.

I think you are not the only person to complain / criticise the eTorq engine. Probably the worst engine Fiat have ever fitted to a car.

Thought we were talking looks here...

Surely the worst looking 500 named car has to go to..

Makes the X look like an oil painting, like someone grafted the remains of a 500 onto a multipla.

I take it it's a T-Jet, I do like the T-Jet lumps. When I looked up the eTorq apparently it's the same Chrysler engine which was used in the R50 Mini's it's just been renamed to eTorq

I remember sitting in one of them when they first hit the showrooms, the interior was as disgusting as the exterior 😂

I agree its pretty ugly, but a very competant tool for transporting people and stuff. Comfy too. I rode in a hire diesel version 400 miles in a day in the back and even with a 1.3 diesel engine it did the job effectively. But I couldnt buy one. I just couldnt! (TBU)

If you had bought it ot would have gone 'pouffe' and turned INSTANTLY into red oxide overnight LOL. Just to spite you.

Well Im going to say it I love the Panda. Its basic but still nicely styled and I love the 169 Panda 100HP the changes make a disproportinate improvement. A REALLY cool car. I so wish I had retained mine.

I like a culpted bonnet and the Panda is done to perfection its just cute.

Yeah probably 🤣🤣🤣I so nearly bought an NSU Ro80 back in the 80's. What a car. Problem was it needed a new exhaust. That was going to cost twice the price of the car.... Never buy with the heart. My Mrs did that and shes lived to regret it.....

One car I do want to own is a Panda 100HP in Electroclash Grey which in my opinion is the best colour for them, problem though nowadays is a lot of them are worn out with high mileage & have probably been thrashed within an ich of their life
