Hey guys need some help,

recently went on holiday to morocco, was lovely whether and had a fantastic time but when i went, i left my much loved 2003 punto 1.2 8v mk2 active sitting on the drive. I returned after the 2 weeks break and went to start her up n nothing happened she was dead. Anyway after jump starting her she burst into life so we went for a nice long drive about 20 miles give or take. After we got back n turned the engine off, went to restart it and again nothing.
Any ideas?
My first thought would be the battery may be dead and need replacing. Any of you guys know what battery i should get to replace the old one or know where i can find out, i don't know that much about cars but really want to learn.
cheers, any help will be much apreciated

20 miles isnt enough to charge it up

how old is the current battery?

if you can take it out and charge it for a good 24hours and try again if it dies quickly after that then you probaley need a new battery

i think its the same battery from new so its gotta be 6 years old ar least, i'll take it out tonight and charge it for the 24 hours and get it tested whilst its out, putting it back in and then having to get it out again.
i'm just wondering, if the battery turns out to be okay, what else could the problem be, the alternator perhaps?

cheers

if its six years old then i reckon a new one is in order

have you installed an after market head unit?

no not yet, i have major plans for the car but ive only just purchased it about 3 months ago, awaiting funds at the moment, my plan was to get a second battery n put it in the boot to help run the sound system, amp etc but now i think your right, a new larger battery purhaps is in order.
Any ideas of the specs of the current standard battery in the punto?

cheers

i would say buy a new battery i had to replace mine when i got it

i cant reamber any specs of the top of my head the best way is to just take the car to somewhere like kiwk fit they will probaley fit it for free if you buy the battrey from them

ah good idea, i actually have a mate who is a mechanic at kuik fit, ill give him a ring.
cheers for your help

zach

The second battery will need a split charger or one of the batteries wont be charged.

The boot battery should also be a deep discharge type. Not much good for engine starting but delivers power for longer.
