I'm guessing that the subject of these may cause some controversy on here...:D

Just to let people know that I have just purchased one for me and my mate from ebay and I think they are wonderful!!

It fits nice and snug on my aftermarket steering wheel and provides a very obvious visual/physical detterant.

I figure that from a security point of veiw - they are strong/effective enough to stop some little pikey/chav nicking the car on a spur of the moment thing - and any sophisticated criminal that could *possibly* disable it, wouldn't waste time stealing a Cinq!

From another point of view (and what I imagine is the reason most people buy them, myself included) they also make a nice self defense weapon that you are obviously entitled to carry around in your car.

Reason for buying it was some jumped up Ir*** rudeboi chav c**ts decided it would be fun to follow and harrass me when I stopped at the weekend... Now in that situation everything happened to be fine as I had a car full of mates following me :D and when the realised this they buggered off... but it made me realise what *could* have happened had I been alone or with my girlfriend etc..........

What I want to know is people's opinions on whether or not you can get away with using one of these in a self defense situation/if someone was threatening you etc?? ...or would you end up being shafted for decking a pikey??

...hhhmmmm...

Regards,
Matt

PS: Anyone been in the situation I described or know what I'm on about?

how much do they cost?

personally IF u thought your life was in danger then that is the only time i think u might get away with defending your self and your property.

like this new law that allows people to use wateva force necessary to stop a burgular robbing their house, i wonder if it is the same for your car?

but in all fairness if i was bein jacked with a gun pointed at me, the baseball bat lock behind the seat would b the last thing on my mind!

I've got one, it cost me 8 quid from a wholesaler's, and if any w***er gives me roadrage or tries jacking me then he's getting it in the face! :D
It's been used a few times already on road-rage muppets who object to me pointing out their lack of driving skill (admittedly its usually via the use of this gesture :tosser: ;) ), but only as a threat so far though, and each time the dickhead has backed down when faced with a large lump of metal (y)

If you use it as a weapon and the court decides you carried it for that reason you would be in a lot of trouble. I would make it the VERY last defense, a normal crooklock you would be fine with but it's a different story with the baseball bat version for obvious reasons.

The only positive is if you get stopped and your car searched for whatever reason, it's very unlikely they will mention it. As I say, it would be if you used it where you would be in a very difficult circumstance.

It's always better to walk away.

For the record Mase, no such law was brought in. Hence don't assume you can use whatever force. It's still proportionate force. A new leaflet is available which will explain this to you if you have a search for it

£13.99 plus delivery - Carbon effect finish :D

I see your point about the gun - but that's not really what I bought it to protect against ie: car jackings or guns... someone has a gun, you shut up and give them what they want (unless you have a bigger one :D ala Lock Stock in the pub bit :D) but against Chavs who often have flik-knives etc.. (which could cause you a serious amount of harm) - it would be very effective...?

Hmm, unfortunately the law is the last thing on my mind if someone threatens me/my car. It's them or me, and it ain't gonna be me.

I like the fact that they realised the "errors" of their ways when faced with metal - wannabe tough guys :(

Totally with you Jonny. The law would be the last thing on my mind if some criminal scum gave me an excuse to beat the crap out of them.

And if it's a chav with a flick knife, then I'd feel that anything short of actually killing him would be justified :D

No they clarified it not changed it - but you can still use plenty of force up to and including killing them if they are going to kill you. Remember, Tony Martin didn't go to jail for shooting his burglar, he went to jail for shooting him 12 times.

lol @ the 12 times!! - I see what you mean about excessive force there...

But like I said... If someone waved a knife at you or even said they wanted to fight you - surely then the incident would be classed as self defense!! Batter them...

Try taken on somebody with a knife if you have a baseball bat. You will win if he is a metre plus from you, if he isn't, you may well be dead next time you wake up.

Anybody you knows the basics of self-defence knows that a bat is considered a long range personal weapon and up close, it's very difficult to manipulate, a knife however does it's job close up. Never attempt to use it close up because you will get beaten. Thankfully if you were even in that position you would hopefully be backing away to AVOID the fight rather than forcing it which would give you the space to use it as required.

I'd rather hand over my car than hit somebody in the head with a bat and risk killing them. Loss of car vs. knowing I had killed somebody anyday. Remember it's usually not their fault, just their upbring/current situation etc. Very few people are bad enough to deserve that IMO.

Mase, it would be your fault if it happened to be baseball shaped crook lock, no court would let you off because your intention would be obvious.

One tip I heard recently about this new law and defending your property:-

if you happen to keep a licenced double barrel shotgun next to your bed, make sure the first barrel kills, then shoot the second barrel into the ceiling - in court, you can say you did a warning shot first, and still they came at you ;)

Baseball bat in the car is ok, as long as you have the glove and ball, plus a few baseball magazines for good measure - 'just on the way to the local park, officer' :)

i am sorry but well... no.

if i was bein attacked i sure as hell would not stand there and let it happen, i would reach for somethin to hit that person off with.

if that thing i reached was a crook lock (regardless of its shape) i would swing for them with it!

if it hit them an knocked them to the floor, bargin i would drive off and prob report the attack.

now to me, it OBVIOUS that i was bein attacked and defended my self by lashing out with the closest thing to hand there fore proetecting my self and my property!

But Stu....what about your ceiling?!

Trust me Mase, if you carried and then used a baseball bat shaped crook lock you would be in trouble in court, unlike if you used a normal crook lock. In a normal situation it would be fine - it's a crook lock and you can have those in your car. It's when the intention to use it as a crook lock turns to using it as a baseball bat (hence offensive weapon) when it becomes difficult to defend yourself legally.

If you hit somebody with one of these things properly, sadly they wouldn't be getting up in some cases. Personally I care too much for myself, my family and others to end up with the possibility of a man slaughter case and with the conscience of having killed somebody.

It's similar to having a baseball bat in the car, sure it would be fine 9/10 iwth the police if you can assure them you're off to play baseball but if you ever used it, you would have trouble explaining yourself.

I am not saying it's bad to defend yourself, however, a lot of this thread seems to think you could use it as an offensive weapon during a road rage incident when the best thing to do is ALWAYS get away. There's always somebody out there who's crazier, harder and more aggressive than you *

*The jury is out if this is true for JB ;)
