Re: Rear Axle, Bushes - A BIG Thanks!

Does anyone know the name of the part number Anon quoted? I'm having the same knocking ad it's driving me BARMY! I'd like very mch to know what this part is so I know what I'm asking for!

 Err, Rear Axle Bushes!?

Re: Rear Axle, Bushes - A BIG Thanks!

my dad has a multi wagon and has had the same noise recently..went for a service about 2 weeks ago. Its the same problem as what you have posted up. The garage was honest and told him, but they have told him that if he can get over the noise it shouldn't need to be replaced until the next service. So there are one or two decent dealerships out there!!!

Re: Rear Axle, Bushes - A BIG Thanks!

Hello Guy's....I'm new, and basically joined because of the Rear bushes fault.
On my way to work in Jan of this year, my car started jerking....I managed to get it to work, but the power steering had gone, and the engine failure message was flashing up.I phoned Green flag, and they basically said they'd have to take it to the nearest Fiat dealer. The nearest Dealer was Evans Halshaw in Horsforth Leeds.
They booked it in for the diagnostic report, and I also mentioned if they would look at the rear Axel as it had been knocking for a few weeks.
They phoned me back in the afternoon, to tell me that the engine fault was the Ignition coils, well one of them..but I would need all four replacing as if one goes, then they all will go...This would cost around £400 to fix.
Then they told me about the knocking sound. This was the Rear bushes, and would require a whole rear sub frame at a cost of around £1000. So a repair bill for £1400 plus a extra £100 for the diagnoses.I drive a Fiat Stilo Multiwagon 03 plate and only 35k on the clock.I looked at the market value of my car and found it was only worth around £4000.
As I need my car for work and for my family, I thought it might be time for a new car.So I was talked into the new Grande Punto...and traded my MW in.
When I went to pay for my new car, I spotted a document about my old car with some figures on.One of them was a Trade in price of £2000 and another was the cost to repair £40.
I asked the sales man and he said, they were patching it up and sending it to auction.
As this car cost me £16k less than 4 years ago, I thought i'd rather keep it than let them have it.
I got my new car, and took my old car to work.
I phoned a Mechanic I know and told him about the Faults Fiat had Dianosed.
He told me it was Ballocks about needing 4 ignition coils and said that they take 5 mins to fit a new one.
I bought a ignision coil off Ebay for £10, and he fitted it for me in no time.
The engine is now working like new.
And now i've just read that you can get the Rear bushes for £12.68 each + Vat.I am so let down by the Fiat Dealer, and they really saw me coming.
I'm now gonna look into buying these bushes and see if my mate can help fit them.
Then I will sadly have to sell my Multiwagon.
So thanx for these Threads, they really help.
Martin

 Another shining example of parasidic ignorance:bang:

I've certainly learnt that just because 'they' have a "qualification" or have worked with Fiat for 25 years it doesn't always mean they are up to date! Old Dog, New Tricks?

I too have the knocking from the rear axle, independent garage advised new bushes, but failed to quote a price as "they're a real bugger to fit". Noted down the part number to order, will join motor club at work and get some help to fit myself....got a few REME mechanics here who should be able to do the trick.

rear suspension bushes required!!!!!!

hi all,
i would really appreciate some advise please.
i purchased my fiat stilo multiwagon estate two months ago and was very pleased with it at the time, however, over the past two weeks i have noticed a lot of banging/knocking from underneath of the rear of the car.

i have taked the car to my local private garage and they have showed me that the two rear subframe mounting bushes are worm and need replacing and told me to order some from the fiat dealers, i didnt think at the time this would turn out to be such a big deal..........i have been told by the very unhelpful dealers that the bushes are not available seperately for my 03 reg car,and i have to replace the whole of the subframe assembly at a cost of over £650.00 + vat, just for the part, and the fitting would be ontop of this. i was also told by them that the bushes are available seperately for the 04 model costing only £14.00 + vat each, but not on mine. i have asked the question on weather the 04 bushes will fit on my 03 model several times to several dealers all over the region but no one seems to know, and nobody has bothered to get back to me...........i think fiat customer care is dreadful..........so i was wondering if anyone has come across this problem before, and can these bushes be purchased seperately, or does the 04 model bushes fit?
i have had no choice but to order 1 04 bush just to see if it is the same for myself, but have been warned by the dealers that no refund will be given, and could take up to 3 weeks to come from italy!!!!!
your help would be much appreciated.
thanks

Re: rear suspension bushes required!!!!!!

Another case of the left hand doesnt know whet te right hand is doing  bushes are now available for all the earlier cars tell them to check all documentation and service reports :)

Re: rear suspension bushes required!!!!!!

Hi there,
I've had my multiwagan 1.9jtd for a year now on a 52 plate and also now get the knocking noise from the rear.
Can you tell me if the bushes for the newer model fitted yours?
cheers m8

Re: rear suspension bushes required!!!!!!

The bushes for the multi wagon not used on any of the other models and the bushes will fit yours so you will need to order bushes for the multi wagon ..the axle beam also from the multi wagon is unique to the car as well ..which is a great shame as there is a rear axle assembly on ebay at the moment ..:)

Re: rear suspension bushes required!!!!!!

I also have a faulty rear bush needing replacing and was told I needed to pay £850 to rplace the whole axle to replace he bush. On querying this on a car with only 25000 mileage the fiat dealership eventually found there was an expensive tool which would enable them to only rplace the bush but... they could not obtain one. On further complaint they researched the problem further and now the car is going in tomorrow to have the axle removed, put in a vice and thus 'pop' out the bush in order to replace it. They have never done this before and can't say how sucessful this will be. New cost will be half the original. i.e £430 ish. I am still not happy of course. Also I have a problem with alternator warnings in damp weather and deep puddle exposure. The AA tell me that on many modern cars the alternator is not encased and is therefore liable to damp. I have lost all power and brakes on one occassion so was pretty alarmed to get the warning on the fast lane of a motorway after small amount of light rain.

Re: Rear Axle, Bushes - A BIG Thanks!

GUYS SOS i need your help badly. my rear bushings are torn and creak like crazy and the bastards want to replace the whole rear axle for 1,000 euros. i told them the part number but their computer shows no part number. i checked the eper also and nothing came up is it right? G0050706505? also is this part compatible with the 3 door stilo? also i heard that to change the bushings is only possible on the new version of the stilo not the first version that i have. any info on this? i refuse to let the #()*$&)(*&#$ rip me off i and i dont want to replace the axle so please any help would be great.

Re: Rear Axle, Bushes - A BIG Thanks!

I have just paid £170.00 including bushes at FAST in Stockton on Tees, they said it was a hell of a job (1st one they have done) but my car is like new again from it and should of been done ages ago.

I did have the part number but can't remember what it is.. I do knowit was the same part as the newer cars as the trailing arms are only differnt in that the brake line routing has changed!

Re: Rear Axle, Bushes - A BIG Thanks!

Re: Rear Axle, Bushes - A BIG Thanks!

Phil, I just had a look on shop4parts, and those bushes aree about 15 quid each plus VAT. Looks like that eBayer was after a quick buck

yep and when i emailed him about what models they fit, he replied, all of them including the multiwagon, which i don't think is right.

Re: Rear Axle, Bushes - A BIG Thanks!

If I could find my damn ePer disc I'd have a look, but I haven't got a scoobies where I put it :bang: shop4parts only list the one part though, but it doesn't state what model. What's listed is below:

Rear Axle Bush

Part Number: S4P3080
Manufacturer: European

Listed Price: £22.50
Our Price: £15.75
You Save: £6.75 (30%)
Please note that All Prices Exclude VAT.

What surprises me is the listed price, when as far as I was aware, Fiat denied the existence of replacement bushes, and insisted on an entire new rear axle assembly being fitted

Re: Rear Axle, Bushes - A BIG Thanks!

Chris, I reckon our cars have got the same disease. Frist the balancing issue and now this. :bang:

Is the knocking you guys get really random rapid tapping or is it more big thudding knocks when you drive over stuff?

Re: rear suspension bushes required!!!!!!

hi sorry i have only just seen your question.............i have had my rear mounting bushes replaced by my local private garage and the 03/04/05 etc bushes do definately fit the earlier model cars.
i purchased the bushes myself at fiats at the cost of just under £15.00 each and like i said had then fitted by my local mechanic for £150.00.

thank you all very much for giving me advise on my problem!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: rear suspension bushes required!!!!!!

Good news i managed to find an independent garage down here with a very famous greek mechanic that is famous in tuning fiats. Took it to him gave him the info about the possibility of bushings alone. he rang me up a couple hours later he said he found them and their gonna be installed tommorow. The part number he found for me 3d 1.6 stilo is 50706505. Cant believe the official dealer was giving me **** that their is no possibility of getting bushes alone (like he bothered to look). cost savings? 1,000 euros verse 150? sounds like a good bargain
