That’s pretty much the way I did them, but I opted to sand the bush down rather than hone the holder, the way I figured it if I miss judged the sanding I could buy another bush.
The first time I done them I had the same trouble with removing the rubber part, by accident I found an easy way to get them out.
If you look at the new bush you will see it has what looks like a rubber lip at one end (that’s the bit that you press against when fitting the new bush). When removing the old bush use a chisel and hit that lip as if you are trying to knock the old bush out the rubber insert will easily come out in one bit .

As already posted in a couple of my other threads i've replaced my bushes on my multiwagon. Anyone in the Hampshire area needing it done contact details are in the website link at the bottom of this post. Give us a ring for a price.(y)

Shame to see people selling stilo's just because of these bushes and the rediculous quotes and bull**** fiat come out with.

Can anyone recommended an independant garrage/mechanic in and around the Black Country (Dudley/Stourbridge), who would do this job; as the local dealer has quoted £900-1000 for doing job with new subframe/rear axle?
A lot of beer tokens and wine vouchers!!!

anyone in London who could help me, for a reasonable price of course, as i have the same problem which seems to get worst and worst each time i drive. I'm a student have'nt got the money too go to the dealer as they'll charge an arm and a leg

What kind of sound it makes with bad bushes?

Only a single "tuc" when passing deep holes?

Or more like a fast succession of Tuc's (tuctuctuc) in any kind of uneven surface?

I was told the abarth rear stabilizer bar also failed and makes a similar noise to my last description above. Where is this stabilizer bar?

Re: Rear Subframe

Yep the bushes are widely available & are not too difficult to do - I had to do the job twice as I fitted the bushes wronlgy the first time - this is because the bushes sre fluid filled & must be fitted with the hard rubber part aligned with direction of travel so do carfully note the exact alignment before removing the old ones. To remove the old ones, I lowered the arms complete with mounts after removing the 4 vertical bolts on each side, remove through bolts & mounts, expose & drill out the rubbers using a 40mm core drill/holesaw, cut outer shell using a hacksaw(saw is re-assembled after putting blade through the bush - careful not to saw into subframe bush housing) - bush outer shell can be bolstered out once you've cut most of the way through. Also as supplied, the new bushes are a very tight fit - I reduced this tightness by spinning the bush mounted on a threaded bar in my drill chuck (drill held in vice - poor man's laith) whilst polishing the outer bush shell with an alu-oxide flapdisc on my small angle grinder - bush is then more easily drawn in using 12mm threaded bar, an assortment of large washers, sockets etc. - I found that using a thrust bearing greatly helped in getting my homemade puller to run smoothly - I still have this setup in my kit so could photograph it for anyone interested. The key to this job is the grinding/polishing part & rigging up a homemade centre rod puller.

Re: Rear Axle, Bushes - A BIG Thanks!

I just wanted to write a few lines(!) to thank everyone who has posted comments with regards to the rear axle bushes.
This is my experience - I hope this helps!
I started to hear the clunk/bang/thud every pothole & drain cover I crossed in my 53 plate Stilo MultiWagon (near-side-rear). After worrying that I might be mistaken for a drunk driver  - avoiding potholes etc - I took it to a local Fiat Dealer. A young chap (just outta nappies) rode shotgun while I fought my instincts and actually aimed for the buggers.
He confirmed the rear bushes were "shot". After a 20p cuppa-"soup?":yuck: he informed that the whole axle needed replacing at a cost of "around a grand".:(
Three months outside of the warranty. Shheesshh!
Then I found you guys! (via Google!):D
I did get a second opinion with the St Erth FIAT DEALER(n) , explaining my research & other peoples experiences, but the chap there used innuendo to suggest that the fiat forum was full of people who didn't know as much as he did because he'd been with Fiat a very long time and knew all there was to know about Fiat's, life & everything.... and if I kissed ass - he MIGHT replace the axles with bushes at a good price.:bang:
A chat with Fiat Customer Care (00800 3428 0000), explaining that I had learned (from here) that apparently the bushes are available without an axle earned me a letter saying sorry....but...tough...wear...tear...etc...Etc.
Another phone call to Fiat to confirm I wasn't looking to get something for nothing, but paying a £1000 for a wear and tear item seemed excessive considering there seemed to be an alternative Part # G0050706505 - Costing £12.68 ea + VAT.
Jeff @ Fiat Customer Care said he'd phone me back. That day he did and said the part did exist and that the original dealers would contact me.
Keith at Vosper’s Fiat phoned, and said he would order the parts but was unsure how much it would cost - but did suggest that axle changing takes a few hours so gave me a ball park figure of £300 inc.
2 weeks later my Stilo MW spent a day with Vospers Fiat, they replaced the bushes, my car sounds healthier, handles brilliantly and I worry no-more about the old bill thinking I'm a drunk driver!
Total cost £317.44 FANTASTIC!:slayer:

SINCERE THANKS GUYS(y) :worship:

I have the same thing and will try to get the parts to fix this thank you for the information, I will let you know when I fixed my stilo if it drives any better :)
