b and m doesnt seem as good as last bravo

a bit of a strange one and wondered if any of you have the same. I had 08 plate bravo and the random on the ipod was exactly that. On my new 60 plate one it appears that when the ipod is in random you only get a selection of a few hundred songs, it always starts on the same one when you start the car, and it plays a track from the same artist/album after another one quite often.
At the first service I asked if there were any software upgrades but was told not.any thoughts

make sure you also have shuffle turned on otherwise it will play random songs, in alphabetical order....maybe thats how the italians do random, i don't know
