Technical Automatic Gearbox Problems

My 1.9 16v autobox has recently started playing up when I engage it in to Drive. There seems to be a couple of seconds wait before it engages and when it does it does so with quite a jolt. Anybody know what the problem could be?

Sticking solenoid in the gearbox? Low fluid level / pressure? Stuck brake light switch? Gearbox ECU? Could be any number of things really.

How many miles has it done, it may be worth taking it to someone like an AutoTek independent AT specialist as they will be able to plug it in and diagnose further. Sorry I can't help further!
