Are mk1 hgts suppose to have limiters on the rpm?

The RPM to speedo speed is fixed by the gearbox and FD, the wheels make no difference.

The speedo speed to road speed is determined by the wheels.

But the speedo itself can still be up to 10% out.

paul i can go do a run to the redline in each gear and get you speds on mine if you want

You will hit the rev limiter at 7200. A friend of my from belgium, drove almost 120mph in 4th gear (7100 RPM)
As said before; make sure you have driven about 15 minutes, than the oil is good hot...

ok been out and i taped my camera phone to the steering wheel to see what rev=what speed for my hgt 147

1st gear @6500rpm 34mph
@7000rpm 39mph
2nd gear @6500rpm 56mph
@7000rpm 61mph
3rd gear @6500rom 82mph
@7000rpm 87mph
4th gear @6500rpm 111mph
@7000rpm 123mph

limiter is 7200
30-60 in 4s
30-80 in 9s (taken from timer on camera)

usual disclaimer; yes my speedo may not be acurate but my wheels are within .07% rolling radius of recommended wheel/tyre setup, I of course own an airstrip and this was not tested on public roads, whatever.

Read post from me 3 before yours about the rev-speedo relationship.

i've read entire post Tom, paul said a comparision with another hgt might be nice so there it is :)

beacause i know these posts have a tendancy to disolve into the same old speedo is inacurate so your acceleration times are BS routine and/or the speed limit is xx old saw, just trying to keep it on topic...speaking of which someone mentioned the handbook warned against entering the redzone, mine says it's ok for a few seconds

Could be a MkII vs. Mk1 comparison due then me thinks. It wants to reach a hundred in third but I've never yet let it ;)

Tom will no doubt tell me the ratio of the gears to the rev limiter, makes this an unachievable speed. All I know, is some days it isn't interested in speed. Others, I just have grip the stearing wheel and hold on :)

@jay...cheers mate, that is ideal! i will check these tonight on my private airstrip etc...thats spot on to what i need to get a rough idea that everything is ok!

@tom... i am aware that these are only indications and they are realistically well out, but they will help me gauge that i have done everything right(ish)

@nico... i have been told that there is sod all difference between the two mk's so i doubt your results will be much different!

Cheers all!
