Archie the Beetle

Introduction

Hi all.

Thought i'd introduce the old member of the car family...

A 1970's VW Beetle 1300 (y)

Has been SORN for quite a while now, but is road worthy again after much loving care and attention.

Engine and gearbox restored, interior refitted, electrics rewired and body re-sprayed.

Bye Bye Archie...

The decision was took to sell the beetle...

my side of the decision was down to the fact the this car become "too" reliable, you buy a car like this to work on and expect to be out ever weekend working to fix any issues. well till recently this wasn't happening

However a couple of weeks ago after help Eklipze3k out with his Seicento, i decided to take the beetle out for its first drive in over 4months. ironically the first since its MOT.

Turned on the engine, got out to check everything over, and noticed that fuel was pissing out of the fuel pipe just before it gets to the carburetor.

What had happened was that to clean the engine in preparation for leaving it standing for months we decided to splash out on 99octane petrol then add more engine cleaner.... this cleaner and the high octane petrol had decided to eat through the O ring seals that hold the fuel lines together.

So this annoyance further "fueled" (bad joke) my desire to sell..

Sold, the part owner with me has bought the remaining percentage off me.

We had a 60/40 split, me having 60 for having the mechanical knowledge, them 40 for having money...

they paid me labour, parts and a relative proportion for the car. i made £800 for parts & labour, plus £1k for the car.

all has been invested else where...
