Introduction
After 9 years of ‘practicing’, I officially retired at 55 last October and collected The Big Blue Bus on my birthday.
She is a 2023 VW California Ocean, with the 150bp 2.0 diesel engine, mated to a 7 speed DSG auto gearbox. I was initially planning on going down the ‘converted Transporter van route’ but by the time I had added the options I wanted (and removed those I didn’t need) it became clear that a California was the way forward.
She has an electric pop top roof, sleeps 4, diesel night heater and double glazed windows downstairs.
Decent sized fridge, 2 gas burners, chairs stored in the tailgate and a cold shower attachment in the rear.
Adaptive Cruise Control, which is great. Self parking, which I’ve not used yet and a superb infotainment system you wave your hand at to change radio stations.
5 year warranty, service plan, breakdown cover plus 2 MOT’s included. I owner before me and just over 11k on the clock now.
Had a few long weekends away already and it’s very comfy and cozy. Planning some longer trips away in the next few months, before a fortnight touring Yorkshire at the end of September.
