Hi there, am going to have a look at a JTD Brava tommorrow or over the wkend for my sister, and i wanted to know what i should check.

I've had a 1.2 80 sx and now have a HGT myself. But is there a list of things i should look out for, as i've never owned a diesel.

Its a jan 2001 Brava 1.9 JTD 100sx 51K on the clock.

Also if anyone knows about any other JTD's for sale Bravo/Punto even the new Panda's then post here too. Under £3200, and preferably less than 80K.

Thanks

1. Leaky sunroof, check for mould around roof lining and a pillars.

2. Check the car accelerates really well above and beyond 3000rpms otherwise its a new MAF sensor.

3. Definately needs a cambelt change with its age and mileage.

4. Check all electrics.

5. Check for no blue smoke when accelerating.

6. Noisy powersteering, rattles etc.

7. Make sure all keys work.

Usual stuff really. Make sure with it being a diesel its been regularly serviced and had regular oil changes. See previous Service History.

Tommy K's Bravo JTD is for sale. For around £2700 i think.

Also this 51 Plate Bravo JTD for £2475

And these Brava's all under £3K

+ see if the EGR has been blocked
if there is lot of oil on the hose from the turbo to the intercooler
it the pipe has fallen from the colector irbox to the turbo
if the tires have uneven wear

Sven those points you mentioned are they to check for a faulty EGR? I have oil on my Turbo and Intercooler Pipe which covered the pipe in a dirty film. However on the Phase 3 Bravo the EGR is at the back of the engine and not the front. What should i check?

If you have little (a few drops that attract dirt on it) oil on the pipe from the turbo to the intercooler, thats normal - old seal on the turbo - should be replaced when the turbo goes.
But if you put your finger in the intercooler and find more than 1-2mm of oil in - that the turbo is on its way out.

Falulty EGR on the 100JTD is idagnosed by the injector light, as I know - but the simptoms for it to be faulty are:
smoking when accelerating qick (much more than usual ;))
consumpion rises a bit
sluggish when starting from place
and the exhaust test isnt right

Oh right. Well theres no oil in the intercooler except for a very small film just notcable by the touch.

The car passed its MOT on Monday so emmissions are ok.

No warning lights. I guess i can stop worrying LOL.

Thanks Sven.

NP, any time.
and my EGR is blocked on both sides (from the exhaust manifold and from the inlet manifold - total cut off) and I pass mot with no problems ;)

Is FIAT's official position on the timing belt every 72,000, or is there a year value attached as well?

Its now every 36000 miles or every 3 years. Whichever comes 1st.

Its every 72000 or 5 years, however it should actually be changed around the 40k mark, or 5 years.

Alfa Romeo have also changed there service intervals aswell to every 36000 miles or every 3 years.

That tables inaccurate for the JTD.

The JTD105 is 105 BHP, the JTD100 is 100BHP. They have exactly the same performance and MPG approx 50+MPG. The only reason there are two is something to do with the Law regarding emissions, so they built a more friendlier to the enviroment JTD known as the JTD100, Phase3 (Euro3).

Basically the JTD105 is the 1st generation of modern diesel engines, then it was revised alittle later on with the later models JTD100, 2001 onwards.

The JTD105 was built from 1999 upto 2001. The JTD100 where built for one year only(2001).

Cheers Anon, i mean Joske ;)

So it's nice and firendly to being remapped! Not tha i'd do that for when my sister has it.

The 105JTD has a vacuume EGR and the 100JTD has a electric one. The vacuume one does meet the euro2 norma and the electronic the euro3 norm. The preformance is reduced by 5hp on the 100JTD, but its hardly seen.

The interval to change the belts is 120 000km, but my advise would be to change all between 90 000 and 100 000km done, no matter what Fiat sais. Dayco, the company that makes the tensioners for fiat quaranties 100 000km, above that is a bit streched field.

And I forgot - check the driven pulley, that pulley is vulcanised and also starts to make noise after 100 000 - 120 000km - easyer said it lasts the same as the belts.
