any miles?

any miles?

how many fiats you reckon would do half a million?
any car could do half a million, all it needs is servicing and the miles to be done before the car drops to bits from age. an average of 100k per year would make half a million easily possible in any car.

Well theoretically you could keep any car going for ever just by replacing it peice by peice as needed

yeah, but you could do it by only replacing servicables if you do it quick enough. look at taxis, many of them hit the auctions with more than 500k done in 5 years, and they dont have much replaced at all in that time.

Every diesel is more than capable of doing those kind of miles but the things to consider are...
Must be regularly serviced (coaches, lorries, busses etc that are expected to work for a living are serviced very regularly)
Must be driven properly - you rarely see coach & lorry drivers revving up at lights etc, they accellerate & decellerate as gently as possible.
Of course, doing the long haul will achieve the best results in terms of longevity, clocking 3 / 4 or even 500 miles in one go at a steady pace is far better for the engine than half a dozen miles going brains out.

BTW, I think there is a poster on the forums who'se Doblo is coming up on those sorts of miles.

me 2 cant remember who though:confused:

Regular servicing, sympathetic driving, always allowing the engine to warm up before using the power etc. will always help give an engine a longer life. And a car at 100K miles that spends most of its time on the motorway will mechanically be in as good shape (if not better) than the same car at 50K miles that only does short journeys round town. Thus a car driven over long journeys all the time is very likely to be able to rack up high miles with ease.

As for Fiats with high miles, it's known that the basic 8v FIRE engines are good for 200K miles with regular servicing. There also used to be a link on the Top Gear website where they knew of a classic Panda that had done 300K on its original 1.0 litre FIRE lump.

My experience with older Fiats is that the the rest of the car falls apart long before the engine does! :p

when i visited the mondeo froum a lot, someone had a 1996 mondeo taxi with 600k on the clock still in daily taxi work and going strong

Weirdly that too was on its original engine and had had the gearbox replaced.

Think it was serviced at ridiculously low levels though, even at less intervals than an evo, oil was done every 2.5k

The Doblo I used in a previous job had a quarter of a mil on it by the time I was finished with it - and I've seen her on the roads since.
