I've searched back amongst the heater threads - but cannot find the answer - The *little black box heater resistor thing* appears to be undamaged by fire or anything else, however one of the terminals does appear to have suffered some heat damage - the fan does not function.

Could this be due to a build up of corrosion on the contacts resulting in excessive heat? And if so, would cleaning them with a glass fibre pen, removing the oxidation get the blower functioning again?

What are the chances that a fuse has melted due to this?

Also, could the black box be bypassed and replaced with a fixed resistor and switch?

Thanks - if this cannot be fixed without a trip to the garage, the cars going - after the £900 service last week

Try just waggling the wires on the resistor a lot - that seems to have fixed mine for the moment at least. There was some evidence of heat damage to the connectors on the resistor

This was over a year ago... But thanks anyway :) We ended up cutting out the connector block under the dash and joining the individual wires together..

Cars was written off a couple of months ago so doesnt matter now anyway :(
