Sony Ericsson have been in a downward slide for a while not much of a surprise given how reliable my current SE phone is.
10 years ago phones used to be top quality and would last forever. that was possible because you paid a fortune for your phone. these days people pay far less and dont keep their phone as long so phones are designed to be disposable cheap goods. that is why quality has dropped noticably over the years.
I'm super happy with my C902. Other than the last but one firmware which was a blue&me failure... they've fixed this with their latest release.

Jug has a very valid point but that c905 in the story cost £391.44! Thou in real terms it's much cheaper than a phone from 10 years ago, it's not to the level of other electronics like home computers or laptops that are a fraction of there 1999 price but offer some sort of reliability... Like nokia released 13 different updates of software for the n96 in it'r first few weeks of sale lol. It'r really weird that none of this showed up in testing?
It cheeses me off that when I get a shiny new mobile the first thing I've got to do is a software upgrade :tosser:
I wanted the new C905 a few weeks back when my contract was up for renewal but all the reviews I read made it a no no. No new mobiley for me cause it's the only mobile i really like just now, so its just a sim only contract

i like SEs to use, ive had nothing else over the past few years. But their reliability is awful - the last one had all sorts of problems.
Then again, ive now got a blackberry which is almost as bad you are always gonna get problems with newer technology these days though, given that its advancing so fast.

I've SE's for the last 6 years and never really had any issues, but given all the comments on their new phones from different forums and review sites, I'm thinking of jumping back to a Nokia

They used to be the Volvo of the mobile world but now it's just Chinese crap you getting... Bit like if Geely actually buy Volvo then, lol

Had a K750i that was solid and worked fine - especially after a firmware update.
Got the k850i when it came out and it was completely different. The case was rubbish, dust got in behind the camera cover and the phone reset at least once a week even after installing the latest update. Switched to the iPhone when my contract ended - was really annoyed that SE went downhill so rapidly.

The K750i or W810 was about the last good phone they made. The K800i wasn't bad either but it was the beginning of the end

I have the W850i, and I'm only starting to have intermittent problems with it that seem to solve themselves after a few days Rather than pay through the nose to get it looked at, I went and bout a R306 for ~$80 and I use that one when it goes dead

I would never go back to Sony Ericsson after my last phone. Very bad quality. Like you say Jug, I had my 6600 for just under 4 years. Never had one problem

My SE 905 has broken yet again For the second time since I've had the phone (6 months) you can only speak to people when they are on speakerphone :bang:
Vodafone have already had it back once and fixed it but it's done it again. I do not have insurance on it But comes with a 1 year warranty.... So guess it'll be off to be fixed again

I was actually told by the sales people when going to buy a new phone to avoid this phone for that very reason they are apparently only designed to last 6 months max...info supplied by an SE rep....

You PAUG or contract Charlotte. Demand a refund/change of handset make/model.
I use both, super reliable (get dropped nearly everyday) the cameras are excellent & the W810i has inbuilt walkman
A lot of the signal problems people have with S/E are due to a bad design.
I work for a mobile phone company(lets just say my futures bright ) and we get a lot of calls with people saying they have fluctuating signal on SE phones.
This is normaly due to the fact that the internal areal is at the bottom end of the handset unlike most phones where the areals are towrads the top.
If you pick up your phone and hold it to your ear the chances are you'll cup the bottom of the phone thus covering the area where the areal is.
I have a Tytn II and my lass has a S/E C902. I can sit in the house with 3 bars of signal and she may get 2 but as soon as she picks up the phone , holds it to her ear the signal drops out and the call is lost.
If you hold the phone with out cupping the bottom end in the palm of your hand it helps but also keep the software updated.
If your not getting any signal at all try setting the phone to a "2G network selection" only
Most networks have the handsets defaulted to "GSM and 3G" for selection so the phone will look for a 3G signal first then 2G.
If your 3G coverage is poor but functional the phone wont look for a 2G signal but will stick on 3G with poor signal rather than go onto 2G where you'll get better service.

- Scrol to Connectivity press select
- Scrol to Mobile networks press select
- Scrol to GSM/3G networks press select
- Then select GSM only
