Amp Question

never mind, it was the grey one, its all in and sounds class  , got 2 cold cathodes wired up in boot aswell, what needs done now....

Tidy. (y) Out of interest, is that wiring harness the JVC one? It looks totally different to my JVC harness. Very miffed if its a JVC one and the REM cable is grey

Yeah I checked everything, but I read the manual and it said the fiat remote was terminal 5, or 2nd one in from top right on the lower block, that makes sense to me but probably not to anyone else lmao, thats what the grey cable was connecting to so I shoved the remote cable into that and the amp came on, works perfect now and everything is put back together, BUT another question, this is important.

I have 2 240w JVC 6x9's, got them pretty cheap so not a big loss if they blow or anything but obv Id wanna avoid that.

So my question is, my sub is running off the "right" channel on my amp, there is another 2 terminals left, so the sub is getting 300w roughly out of the 600w am I right?, a mate of mine has the same sub/amp but 500w 6x9's, and hes connected the 2 6x9s to the same terminal, the remaining ones for the left channel. Is this safe? is the wattage split 50/50 between the 2 6x9's or is this likely to blow the amp having 2 speakers on the one channel?

Basicly if I was to do this, would each 6x9 get 150w? or does it not work like that?

K well I tried 1 6x9 off it and it worked, never blew up or anything, although if you look at the pics theres a sub on or off switch, basicly a low pass filter I think, so to run the 6x9's off the amp aswell that has to be to sub off position, so the sub is trying to do all the sound frequencys I think, is that safe?

would it be safe if I just turned the hz right down etc?

thats the thing.... your sub wont like those high and mids.... it likes it low ;)

id etiher run 6 x 9s off the hu or get another amp.. 4 channel (forward thinking) and keep ur 2 channel for your sub on low pass filter lol

that looks a bit of a beast! lol.. erm.. i would always keep your sub on its own amp really. then you could use an amp like that to run your other loud speakers off.

that amp looks good.. tho ive never run any SPL stuff. bear in mind that it throws out 200w per channel tho in that auction it doesnt specify in RMS.. so it could be considerably lower RMS. do some reaserch on google and find out what its output is in RMS (always do that with any audio equipment!... speak in RMS or just dont speak! ;) )

say if that were for arguments sake 200w rms you need to turn the gain down so that if your 6 x 9s are rated lower you dont blow em.

just a thought - it would look a nicer install if you got another amp of the same make as ur 2 channel..

Yeah, is a bit of a beast, its just laziness on my part really, I think the 6x9's would probably be fine running off the HU but I can't be bothered undoing all the panels again to run the wires, I'll screw something up, the HU only has 1 set of pre outs though so I dont think running 2 amps is an option.

So if 2 amps isnt an option, and I can't run these 6x9's off the amp and I have no money, I think it looks like Ill have to run these wires to the HU *cries* :bang:

you can split the Pre-out with an RCA splitter cable (run 2 amps off one pre-out)

looking at that amp... if you could have the 5th channel as low pass filter and the other 4 channels werent then that might work too.

tho i no nothing bout that amp! lol

have a look on the net.

let us know what ya decide to do (y)

I just realised I literally have no money lmao, so looks like im in for another fun day of wiring on Monday  :bang:

Nah it isnt so bad I suppose, the system just now, without the 6x9's kicks ass, so even if the HU cant drive them fully aslong as Ive got some sound coming from the back other than the sub I'll be happy, don't need anything any louder anyway.

cheers for help again, common sense has prevailed thankfully.

youl be suprised...

they wont sound bad at all off the HU.

its not all about how much money you can throw at it.. sometimes youve gotta work with what youve got ;)

let us know what you think of it when your done (y)

that is so true..... my install is an example. OK half of it is 2nd hand, but considering people spend more on their HU than I did on my whole install (including materials), I'm well happy.

K, wired them up, cut parcel shelf, everythings in, apart from connectors at back of headunit are loose so Ill need to get one of those plug things  , but anyway, surprisingly good results I think, the whole system kicks ass seriously, far too loud but awesome that it can go that loud, sounds great :D

Don't want to sound like your dad, but be careful with your ears. I run a broadcast company and do a lot of work for studio's, broadcasters etc and the number of people I meet with hearing damage is unbelievable. We were once involved in a risk assesment for sound levels and it doesn't take much to damage your ears, one the worst injuries is if you get tinitis.
