General alarm?

just read a thread on fccuk about a guy who turned up at home to see a couple of guys driving off in a transit van after they have tried to nick his coop, it got me thinking that i have 2 sensors in my car on the dash, but i dont know if it actually works! I have a fob for the central locking, but i am only aware that it is for the central locking purposes!!! any suggestions?

If the fob is a black rectangle with two buttons, it's the standard alarm fob. It's easy to tell if you have an alarm, press the left button for the activation, and sit in the car. If the alarm goes off, there you go! also try and start the car, if the immobiliser is working it shouldn't start.
