hi all,
i`m aware of the fragility of the standard fit alarm that Fiat/Dealers fiited to the coop, but mine has given up the ghost.I was unable to disarm it the other morning and had to bite the bullet and annoy the neighbours while i fumbled to switch the siren of with the key. I have replaced the battery on the fob, pressed for 30 secs and all the other suggestions but still no luck.I have managed to disable the sensors by pushing the slide on the fob back so at least i can drive without the front hazards flashing (bonus, but i was thinking i was popular when the oncoming cars were flashing me). Anyway , after contacting 2 Scorpion dealers( mine has a "generic" MPT1340 fitted) i was informed this is a well outdated system and it would be better to have a complete new system. (are we all agreed on this ?).I do beleive it is the sensor on the car which is at fault as i was able to disable the sensors and stop the front hazards going off.
another issue is a constant whining coming from the rear, i suspect wheel bearing but how do you identify which one as the drone doesnt increment or decrease when going around a particular bend ?

Jack the car up and woble each wheel sepratly and see if there is any play in the wheel.

when you woble the wheel there should be no play, basicly you shouldnt be able to woble it. if you can then thats the one that needs doing.

also 20vt are known for the diff wining, what coupe have you got?

Best way to check is as sniper said to jack car up. You may not be able to feel the play if it isn't far gone. Better way would be to spin the wheel and feel the suspension spring which should vibrate if the bearing is knackered.

As for alarm I'd give up and replace it with aftermarket one. If it were one of the newer meta alarms you can get replacement bits from a specialist.

thanks for that Chris & Sniper, i have a 20V. Have been advised by a fiat mechanic that if the camber is out on the rear shocks it can cause the tyres to wear unevenly and make the whirring sound. tyres look good so i`m going for the bearing option. Is this a DIY job or garage, ive seen bearing-hub assemblies advertised on ebay, not sure of the quality though, any suggestions best place to buy from?
On another topic, anyone know what route the rear washer tube takes, the pump is working as ive taken off and swapped for the front one, nothing showing at exit and no obvious signs of water/moisture inside car.
Besides that and several "easily remedied" issues , all is well.
