Technical Airbag Failure Warning Light

Re: Anyone Had a Prolem With Airbag Light

Well, mine is starting to f!ck me off now:mad: The local garage stuck a laptop onto it and the fault is definitely in the passenger seat airbag, they think it needs a new wire. Ive cleaned up the terminal several times and it no longer seems to stop the bloody light coming on....normally as soon as I accelerate away after cleaning it. I havent so far been bothered to clean up the other terminals because of the fault analysis saying its the passenger seat (and the fact its very obvious the previous owner has already had a shot at that one before and only that one!!).
Anyone got any bright ideas????

Do all of them anyway... im too convinced its my passenger seat airbag but the beep beep didn't stop until i did the rear ones too... it takes 20mins and could save you £250

Re: Anyone Had a Prolem With Airbag Light

If it's the OCS then there are things you can try with it before ravaging your wallet with a new one. Look in the Stilo Guides and see if it sounds more like the OCS

airbag

hi just thought i'd warn stilo owners not to keep stuff under the front seats as it may snag the wires for wheight sensors in the seats when the seats are moved

i have seen it happen far far to many times it seems every over week at work at the moment

it's the first fing i look at when the airbag light is on crap under the seats
and i'm realy sick of it now so just thought i'd let people know and try to reduce the number of brakages

Re: airbag

I have actually set the seat at a reasonable place and jammed it with a pop bottle so when people get in the back the seat doesnt move forward. Seems to have done the trick no airbag warnings in over 12 months

I've (inadvertently) achieved a similar result. I mounted a fire extinguisher (for motorsport purposes) just in front of the passenger's seat, on a bracket bolted to the rails. Now the seat can't move forward when the backrest is released. I've never had any airbag/OCS warnings.

There is a problem with the Stilo in that any loose items end up under the seats - I think it's good advice not to leave them there as they have a definite chance of tangling with the wiring.

There seems to be very little room under the seats compared with earlier FIATs - I think because the floor is so much higher (stiffening beams underneath) and the seats end up being bolted down to the floor rather than to the sides like in the Uno or to a raised crossmember like in the Tipo.

Re: Help! airbag light stays on

The old connector under the seat seems to be a common fix for a lot of people. I also have the airbag light problem.....mine went on under sharp acceleration about aday after I got it and since then goes off for a day or so and then comes on for a week in totally random fashion! The local garage plugged in and found it to be the the passenger seat and dash airbag wiring to be at fault. Apparently a new wiring loom is available but its over £60 from Fiat. I have tried the under seat (and other) conector clean up fix...even going so far as to remove the passenger one and solder the wires together, but all to no avail. At the moment Ive given up!!!!! At some point I will try the loom from Fiat and keep my fingers crossed. I would be suprised if its actually the airbag or the whole ECU that needs changing.........make sure you go to a garage that you trust!

Re: Help! airbag light stays on

i would check the OCS if it's not folded or broken.
i've got the same problem with the airbag system failure warning - it's randomly coming on, fiat wanted over 115 pounds for a new OCS sensor, i went to breakers and got one in perfect condition for 20, connected in the place of the old one and voila - the message is gone! I just need to get round to take the seat out and replace the faulty sensor, until then BEEP!,BEEP!,BEEP!:bang:

:yeahthat:

Try running your hand over the passenger seat base. Feel for any unusual lumps and bumps. If there are any then it is most likely to be OCS.

Decks has posted guides for both OCS and wiring connectors in the Stilo guides section, and both are very well done and easy to follow.

Re: run me through the airbag light debate again....pls!!

A red light and "Airbag Failure" message means the whole system is deactivated.

airbag failure

went to find out the fault that was causing my "airbag failure" problem. took the tray from under the drivers seat and did everything the guide showed with metal contact cleaner, joined that back but still the same problem, so decided to have a look at the passenger seat and was slightly shocked at what i found

first of all i was under the impression that there was to be 3 pairs of connector blocks, a white one (no idea wat its for, but its not there) a grey one for the occupant claffification sensor and the organge one for the airbags, the problem is that there is no orange one, i think someone has ripped the wires out off the connector blocks and soldered them together which im sure isnt safe and may be causing my problem

also there is only one half of the grey connector block, the male end, anyone have any idea were the female should be? lol.

Re: airbag failure

So it was like this when you bought it, yes?
The grey connector goes to the OCS in the passenger seat and the white one goes to the seat belt connected yes/no switch

The female grey connector should be comng down from the OCS in the seat but i wouldn't be surprised if the OCS wasn't there at all from what you say

Sounds like someone's done some pretty stupid ripping out of essential equipment.

Re: airbag failure

rite well i took the passenger seat apart and had a look for the OCS, i took the cover off the seat so i could see the yellow foam cushion and the white underside of the cover but no OCS unless it is contined within the cover for the seat?
so assuming that my OCS has somehow vanished, would that be the reason for the increasingly annoying beep beep beep "airbag failure"??

Re: airbag failure

Look in the Stilo Guides and you'll find useful photos and a description of how to replace the OCS,

Here's one to be going on with

Sounds like someone was trying to turn the airbag failure warning off without having a clue what they were doing. Hope they haven't touched much else
