Re: Stupid Airbag Light!!!

Does anyone know why the red aribay bag failure fing is always on and keeps sayin Engine Stop???

Thanks

Hello and Welcome.... use the Search function there is LOADS of info in the Stilo section on that issue (y)

Its probably the connectors under one or both front seats esp if it a 3 door, could be the OCS mat in the seat or connections elsewhere on a 5 door.

I wonder if anyone can help me with my airbag light issue.

I've had the car (a 53' reg 1.6 petrol estate) for about a year now and started getting problems with the airbag light around 6 months ago. Having searched around in the forum for an answer I tried the connector cleaner trick on the under seat connectors with some success. However - the problem has now returned. Having had it hooked up to a fault reader it said that the issue was with the front drivers side impact sensor.

Another shufty through the forum identified the sensor location as being behind the bonnet catch. As the connector appeared to have twisted wires I uncoupled the connector, turned it through 360 degrees to allow the wires to straighten and then reconnected it. Having then spent another tenner to have the system reset I thought that the problem was solved. Unfortunately a few days later I found out that I was wrong...

Now then - some interesting facts:

The light - when it does come on -comes on at exactly the same point when I am on my way to work. How can that be??

Also I have a habit of placing my mobile phones on the passenger seat on my way to and from work. Could it be these that are setting the system off?? If so why does the fault identify itself as a front impact sensor fault??

Also why does the system identify the fault as a drivers side front impact sensor failure when - as far as I can see - there is only one sensor at the front in the middle of the car. Are there other front impact sensors that are located eslewhere??

Finally - is there a way of resetting the warning light without having to spend money each time on getting someone to hook it up to a laptop??

Please help...

Thanks

Once you cure the fault the airbag system checking just needs 3 clear starts to automatically clear the warning so you don't need to pay to have the warning cleared every time. All you're doing is clearing the hard coded fault without curing the problem and, after a certain number of the same fault being recorded under the same conditions it'll turn into a hard code fault and up comes your warning.

Freeze frame data will show exactly what your car was doing when the fault triggered and that's why you're finding that it seems to occur always at the same point on your journey

It probably seems obvious that the people trying to cure your fault don't know what they're doing so it'll be quicker to take it to someone who does, it's a safety system so get it checked out right

I had something similar with my car until recently, thought it was the OCS, turned out I dont have one. Checked the sensor round the back of the bonnet catch (early crash warning sensor is it?), car was still moaning.

This was all after a hand car wash - and it seemed the car bleeped when I went over bumps.

I then checked the multiway connector round the back of the battery, under the fuseblock. The D4 connector i believe its called. Give that a clean with contact cleaner and make sure its dry, Mr Deckhair5 wrote a great guide on how to do it - its in the guide section under Stilo. The next day - warning dissapeared, and hasnt yet returned.

The Stilo airbag system uses the KWP71 protocol, there are free solutions to interface with this yourself but really, you dont need to. As said above, anything minor clears after three restarts, anything more serious requires a suitably qualified person to look at it.

I've been having the airbag warning light message for quite some time now. It is a permanent error message now, i.e it comes on as soon as I put the key in the ignition and stays on.

I have finally gotten around to checking the sensors from the guide on here. So far I have found 4 of the big orange sensor blocks. 1 under the passenger and driver seats, and 1 in the little compartments over the rear wheels in the boot.

I have systematically taken the connectors out and turned the car on to see if the warning light goes out, however it stays on. I have even got to the point of unplugging all 4 sensors and turning the car on, but the warning light stays on.

Does any one have any further ideas on how to solve this?

I am driving an 02 Stilo Abarth 5 door.

I've had the airbag warning light on my 52 plate 1.6 Stilo for years, thanks to Deckchair's guide the light has finally gone off :D

It took several hours (don't ask!:bang:), I have a cut on my leg and my fingers hurt but that bloody light has finally gone off!

THANK YOU deckchair!
