I need to open , edit and save some .ai files, but this is most likely to be a one-off thing that I need to do. I figured out that these are Adobe Illustrator files, which I don't have as a program and it seems very expensive. I would consider buying it if I thought it would be useful in future. Does anybody know if trial versions allow you to save images ? Does anybody have any other ideas?

I managed to download the Illustrator trial. Wow! There are so many tool bars, selection buttons, options, modifiers I don't know where to start! This is a serious program and no mistake. Still, I've got 27 days left on the trial. Hopefully I will have been able to get somewhere by the end of it.

I have selected the rectangle tool, but how do I de-select it!
There are far too many buttons here for an old geezewr to cope with!
As my Grandad used to say:
"More buttons than a tram drivers jacket"

To deselect a tool just click the arrow at the top of the left-hand menu.(y)

Not used AI for a while now.
