I currently have the stock (40w?) speakers. The only thing I have replaced is the head unit from the stock cassette radio to stock cd radio.

If I turn the volume above 45 the speakers don't tend to handle it very well. I don't usually have it above 47 anyways but would love to keep good sound quality at high volume.

A colleague recently changed his door speakers in his golf to 280w alpines and apparently it was a straight swap.

Anyone recommend a decent set of speakers?
Also should I just swap out the door speakers or the rear speakers too?
New head unit isn't an option, just want to keep it looking stock but sounding good (if possible).

Thanks in advance

depends where you want them. rear ones are 10cm i think, they are a straight swap in most cases but the cones are larger on after markets. a good set of vibe or alpines are good choice. if you want a bit more go for 6x9s in the parcel shelf, chavvy but effective again vibe do a good range or my personal favourite jbl, awesome qaulity. My car came with the sub inbuilt so i dont bother with amazing bassy speakers atm so ive got some cheap ripspeed in the front n they do the job just fine bit of a tight fit but worth it, for £12 i cant complain. ANother problem could be the equilizer setting or if you running it through yor ipod or what not turn down the device and turn up the stereo the sound will be crisper and less tinny and vibraty

stereo fitter at halfords, may rip you of but we know our stuff lol!

Thanks for the advice.Don't want to go down the parcel shelf 6x9 route. 99% of the time I'm playing CDs so it's not down to an external device. Equalizer is always set to rock (y).
May have a look around this weekend. Do you know what size the door speakers are? Or are they all the same?

Thanks again

I think the front doors are 17cm and the rears are 13cms

Unless you plan on spending money on good quality speakers don't expect miracles. Anything you're getting off the shelf in halfords will never be good quality they are average at best. Basically buy to the best of what your budget allows and think about the staging etc

and most items are below average tbh. If your on a budget such as myself then they are way better than standard, they do the job. I would never however buy anything else ripspeed

Sorry didn't think to mention that it's only a 3 door (rear speakers are either side of the parcel shelf- or are they 13cm too?) .
What kind of wattage should I be looking at realistically? I imagine the stock cd stereo doesn't put out a lot?
Obviously I don't want to spend a fortune but you get what you pay for.
How would these sound for example: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ALPINE-24...6?pt=UK_In_Car_Technology&hash=item519d3cb9d0
They're cheap but a good make.

Sorry for being a noob  and thanks again for the help so far(y)

for front doors you have to be careful of the mounting depth, you dont have much space in there.

check the ice section stickys and there is a big long list of speaker sizes for all sorts of fiats puntos included

I am in the same shoes as you :slayer:

-Would new speakers need anything or can i hook em up straight and they would be fine? :)

Can anybody recommend decent ones £20-£60 that fit the fronts

yeah rear speakers will be 13cm (beware not all 13cm are created equally this is the cone size and not including the mountings so might still not fit)

the Alpines look ok for the price and will probably do an good job for you.

i believe the originals are something like 35Watts RMS, the alpines are 60watts RMS and most aftermarket head units output 50-55Watts RMS so they should cope fine. the mounting depth seems ok? take one of yours out stand it on a flat surface and measure the depth if you want to confirm.

stick to RMS figures anything else isn't worth the paper its written on

Ok, so how about the Alpines in the front doors and the Pioneers in the back? Or would I get better sound out of having the same brand throughout?

I will check out the ICE section and do a little research into depths etc.

Hopefully this is something I can do whilst waiting to sort my paintwork (waiting for the bad weather to shift)

as far as I know the front's are 16.5 cm and rears 10cm. I could be wrong though so don't take it for granted, to be sure, measure the current ones you got.

And ripspeed is awful, I'll stand by my word.
Even on a budget you are more likely to pick up a better set of speakers off ebay.
