Has anyone tried to repair Lucas ABS hydraulic unit ever?
If someone has somekind of pictures of repairing it, i would be very glad to have those pictures. I´m going to break the unit in pieces and trying to repair that electric motor in it myself.

I dont know how they're constructed, but how do you know when they're broken?

I did some braking in the snow and thought I'd test the ABS (not having owned the car that long) - it seemed to work (not entirely convinced) but made a hell of a noise...

almost like a very quiet car horn...

is that normal? Or am i gonna have to join MareaWeekend in taking things to bits?

abs is silent, the brake pedal judders, but that is all. i've no idea what the quiet horn noise could have been

i've never tried to fix the abs controller so i cant help you there, but surely replacing it with a scrapyard part would be easier?

Ok! Now my ABS unit repairing session is over and the hydraulic unit is working now as a new. I did take some photos during the session and i´m going to publish those in here if possible? The main cause for the units failure was Siemens made relay which uses electric motor in hydraulic unit. But the motor also got some failures in its magnets. But as i wrote i´m going to publish a little story of all that junk what is inside in LUCAS "poorly planned" ABS unit. Sorry my bad english i´m from Finland.

For Jamied: There was ABS light on always and it didn´t go off when i started my car. So i did a test with Examiner in garage nearby and test result was an error code Pump motor.

For Jug: Sorry i forgot to write that i asked from all Finlands scrapyards (small country ;) ) that part but it seems to be more wanted than Britneys beaver pictures. So i decided to open that unit thinking that, if human has build it, human can fix it. Thank god the failure wasn´t in those semiconductors in circuitboard.

thanks for the pic MareaWeekend - where is that unit located?

It was a little wet on the roads today, so i took a country lane home and spent a few miles driving at 40, then slamming on the brakes... the ABS does seem to kick in, but I'm still getting a weird noise (possibly an elec motor) from the passenger footwell area (with both windows closed it seems to be coming from there anyhow...)

I'm taking things to bits on the weekend so might follow suit and take that unit out and inspect...

Now i have published a little instruction guide to remove and repair LUCAS ABS unit. You can find it from the Guide section.

Yup is very good:

We are running a competition at the moment for guides submitted so you'll be in the running! :worship:

Also doing that over at www.fiatboo.com too if you wanted to post it there too as would be of great use to many peeps who dont use this site.
