Thats if only you routinely break so hard that you push tires to the skidding limit. Do you? :)

In an emergency stop, you want all the stopping power you can possibly get.

And you never know when you will need to perform one.

Point is that you never know if you ever will need to perform one, and even when you will need to if your wide tires will really make a difference.

"Better to be safer" attitude can lead to conclusion that the safest driving style is not to drive at all :D

Quite.

But my only connection to the road are four small patches of rubber. I want to make the very best possible use of those, for purposes of active safety. I want the shortest braking distance reasonably possible and the most sure-footed grip on wet and icy road I can possibly get. I might never need it, but if I do, it could make all the difference in the world.
