Our Fiat 500e is less than one year old with just over 1000miles travelled. A couple of weeks ago it flashed up a load of warnings (see images) and then would not switch off. So whilst it aid key not present it could be driven off. The headlights would not go off either. Called Green Flag and their guy tried various things before heading for the 12V battery. He confidently predicted that once the 12V battery was disconnected the car would shut down. Well sure enough this did not happen. The car was still powered with the 12V battery disconnected. We and he decided it was time to head to the dealer with the car. Still waiting to find out from them what was wrong. Has anyone else had this issue and if so how was it resolved?

Hi, 🙂

But pretty sure somebody posted in the last 6 weeks

Very similar Scenario

@Sachmo

Any update..?
Sadly the dealer has been unable to fix this fault. The car was returned to us about 10 days ago after being with the deler for a month. All they had done was reset that fault codes in the vehicle controller. The faults reappeared on the second drive of the car the same day we collected it. Returned to the dealer the same day and still waiting for them and Fiat to sort it out. The car has been off the road for about 45 days of the last 60.

Will post more when I find what is happening.

I hope they have given you a hire car in the meantime

We have the same problem. There is no way to turn the car off. The key is not detected in car, but can be used to open and close the doors. The lights are on and the fans are running. A message came up "To shut off use settings". Searched all options in settings but no such option exists. Only factory reset, which I will use as a last resort if all else fails. Car is on a slope so bricks under wheels in case electric handbrake fails too. There must be an emergency shut off somewhere surely?

Return the thing and tell the seller, you reject it on the grounds it was not fit for purpose. Give them a last ditch 24 hours to fix it. That might sharpen their minds. Trading standards will assist with exact wording of the rejection letter.

I had this happen recently, when I was trying the shut off facility. It threw a warning about keyless entry (aka remote entry aka passive entry), and then would not switch off. I managed to clear it by disconnecting the 12V battery and then pressing the brake pedal. This may not work unless you are in the shut down process at the time.

If that does not work, after disconnecting the 12V battery, disconnect the HV battery at the disconnection box under the rear seat cushion.

@varesecrazy I eventually found the 'hidden' shutdown / start-up menu under settings on the screen on the steering column (not the central display). See this thread:

  • Disable remote entry.
  • Get settings mode ("gear" icon) on the speedometer screen, with the left/right arrows on the wheel.
  • Press the brake AND start button for 30 seconds. A new menu appears: shutdown.
  • Follow onscreen instructions. It asks twice to keep the OK button & brake pedal pressed until the displayed countdown bar finishes.
  • After shut-down, wait 5+ minutes, & it should work normally.

The shutdown worked and seems to have restored normal stop/start button function. There's a BCM error code B1A7D-2F Start Button - Signal Irregular which may be related.
The shutdown menu does not seem to appear when the car is in a 'normal' state, only when 'borked'.

The shut off seemed to take about a minute.

Dealer will look at the code / switch issue tomorrow.

Good that you got there,

I notice on your pic of the speedo display that you have degC at the bottom left. My car has km/hr in that position, as has every other pic I have seen, and there doesn't seem to be a setting to alter that (my settings only allows alteration of bottom center and bottom right). Any idea how that came about on your car?

@Nmeyne

I will be very interested in what your dealer has to say and how they are going to fix the problem. Our dealer has just reset the error flags in the vehicle controller and said there is nothing wrong with it.

I'd be tempted to ask them if they're saying that it is meant to not turn off then. Is that a feature? And will they indemnify you if it gets stolen while in this state.
