The cables on my wife's 2010 500C have all snapped where the boot hinges are. Is this a common problem? Is a new loom available or do I need to make one myself? Any help appreciated.

Not unheard of a new longer loom is available at a price but if you have the skill it's a simple repair extending the cables using silicone covered cable

Technical - New Wiring Harness
Where could I buy a new wiring harness for the tail of a 500c. The brake lights, number plate light, boot catch, high level brake light etc. On mine the wires feeding the high level brake got chewed up by the roof mechanism and caused a short which blew fuse 37. I have taped that up. But...

I suspect it’s unusual if a 500c of that age hasn’t had the boot loom repaired.

It’s a fiddly time consuming job. Would recommend using a repair loom like this, or drop off at your local Auto Electrician (they will be familiar with this fix).

is it that time consuming if you've got the kit?
It's time consuming for the hatch but I think the C only has about 5 wires rather than the 12-15 on the hatch

Its 7 on mine..i think. More pain to be fair trying to thread wires through the gromits than the soldering/heat shrink and removing installing covers

Once any extra covering is removed you simply solder the new section on one end and pull it through with the old one then solder the other end

Bit of talc on the wires helps 'em slide through more easily.

I used a lubricant and the inside of a calpol plunger but it was NOT easy to do,.
in fact im pretty confident i left the plunger as i couldnt remove it. Im definately going to get the new insert before this car goes.
