Hello!

this is my first post here, tried searching here on forum but did not find anything specific about various twinair engines.

I am currently trying to save one little F500 with 0.9 turbo twinair engine in my garage and I am looking for any informations about these two versions - it looks like the 312a2000 is newer version of 312a5000 engine but I cant find any detailed informations whats different - except the black plastic valve cover.

I have already pulled the old blown engine and opened it up (oil pump failure and total destruction) - but I cant find any 312a2000 nearby.

Do you think I can swap it for 312A5000? mounts looks the same but Im not sure if the old ECU will be happy managing the newer engine.

I can also use Kess / Ktag if there is something easy to update in ecu but this is my first Fiat project - and I cant find anything about this car, even workshop manuals are not mentioning 0.9 twinair (I used to work on mercedes and mazda cars and have never experienced car without factory workshop manual - online database is also without twinair info)

I expect 5000 series is a different power output. If this is so I would expect it would need a new ECU too as its fuel maps & ignition timing etc may be different. You might get away with the ECU if the injectors and ignition is transferred from your old engine. I would try andsource the same series if you can do so. I am not an expert in this. I usually ask the dealer what the differences are and find they are quite helpful at the parts desk.

Maybe you could find out if the TA unit and injectors are the same in each version. Cant see a TA unit needing to be different as changes should be in the software. If the parts are the same you are getting nearer to an answer. Also check the front pipe and catalyst on the exhaust. I cannot see the TA is going to be hugely different between 85 and 105 HP types. Fiats engineering philospohy is to mix and match from their existing parts book and if they have stuck to this a change should be possible if the sensors and key computer controlled components can be largely retained and transferred to the newer bare engine. I also think you might find much more if you can communicate with an Italian specialist. I do wish you well in sorting it all out and am sorry not to be able to give any definite info. Please do keep us posted . Information is not so easy to come by and nayhting you find out will be of value to others here.
