Try engine braking more, more economical too, saves your brakes and your fuel, smoother drive aswell.
engine braking will be better for it, it slow every thing down gently. if you just slam on the brakes every just stops, that not good for an engine
plus... doing the braking the wrong way (no engine braking) wears the pads and discs out sooner.... OMG thats the title...
I also learned to drive the "old" way, I had 122,000 miles on a Peugeot 406 estate before the discs needed swapping, and the GPS has 31,000 on the clock now and barely a lip at the edge of the disc and the pads are looking good for ages yet, barely a third worn I reckon, but hen I dont do Trackdays or the 'Ring, just Ringroads ...
like the pun made me laugh....
But that will decrease the life of your engine surely? Isn't engine braking bad for an engine?
Brakes and discs are replaceable and alot cheaper than an engine repairs or transplant.
From Wiki :slayer:
Disadvantages
Engine braking beyond normal engine drag (i.e., shifting into a different gear only to decelerate a vehicle) can increase the cost of owning and operating a vehicle:
- It applies stopping forces directly to the drivetrain, transferring wear and tear to parts that are an order of magnitude more expensive and difficult to replace than brake parts.
- By dramatically increasing engine RPM, it causes additional fuel consumption, even through a fully released throttle, in cars without overrun fuel shutoffs.
You really shouldn't believe every word you read on wikipedia, it's a case of the blind leading the blind sometimes. I'm by far no car expert but i thought it was common logic that engine braking was better.
It depends very much on the car I believe. IT normally says in the manual if engine breaking is recommended or not. My Skoda Fabia manual told me to keep engine breaking to a minimum where as my Fiat manual doesn't mention it other than the fact it can be better for the environment blah etc etc.
Haha my previous car was a Furby too, i didnt do too much engine breaking with that due to revs generally hitting the redline when i did and i couldnt stand the noise.
no vibrations, done over 500 miles on them now. and i aint a dick, i know how to treat new brakes, and brakes in general. I don't need lessons nor tips on how to "bed" them in as i know... from experience and from everyone keep saying it.
Thought i'd just notify everyone that i'm not happy again. especially with the price! but labour is expensive nowa days.
