ok, this is one u lot have prob heard many times before,
should i buy a 16v turbo or a 20v turbo? why?

having had a few quick things and some not so quick ( mr2 turbo, 5 gt turbo highly tuned, ) i now havw decided i want to try a fiat coupe turbo. hardly anyone i know knows anything about them so i dont know where to start.

after several years to many messing around with cars i am returning to college then uni, so the reason i want one is they look good and seem to go well, though i will be skint with about to become a student layabout so reliability and economy have to be considered as well as performance, although i,d prob lightly tune whichever i end up going for. (chip exhaust inmduction) leather and air con are a must also.

heard a lot of ppl upgrade the fuel pump early on is this true or will the standard one cope with a few bhp more?

kinda clueless about fiats so any help greatly appreciated, THANKS:)

any ideas?

see this thread first https://www.fiatforum.com/coupe/66659-why-16vt-so-much-cheaper-than-20vt.html

There are plenty of threads in this section with people asking the same question.

To start with have you actually thought if you can afford one? Do you know if you can get insured on one?

These are very expensive cars to own, most people i know sell them becuase they can afford the car but not the upkeep.

Yea, insurance isnt a prob, around 1100 for the 20v according to confused, bit less for the 16v read the times review and a couple of threads. got a few k in the bank, been workin hard!!! like a bit of a hands on apprach to cars tho never touched a 5cyl engine and dont really wanna catch the bus cos the cars always in bits on the drive, hence no more 5 gt turbo! are they relly that un reliable though?????

 whats all this about different colour keys also:confused:

thanks for your help so far......!

redkey is your code key. You need that for your ECU

alloy and blue key - normal key

Blue Key - spare key

They areNT THAT unreliable but the parts cost a fortune. Its a sports car so you pay sports car prices. It annoys me when people try and find the cheap way around with these cars. If you cant afford to do things properly then you shouldnt get one.

You need to get yourself friendly with a specailist. Me and Boyfriend use motormech in Birmingham. We took both our coupes there.

Way to think about Coupe ownership, is to class them as mini Ferrari's. Servicing is expensive and things like a clutch or belts are def not cheap to do, but aint mega dear.
Because both Coupe engine bays are cramped, they are harder then most to look after. Unless you are very handy with a spanner, i would not class them as DIY cars.
Drive a few of the models to get a feel for them. Both models are cracking and if treated properly, are NOT unreliable. To keep them reliable, half all Fiat's service schedules. This keeps them healthy.
For modifying, go for the 16VT. Basically a similar engine to an Integrale, so very very tuneable. 20VT is tuneable but not as much on the market for them. BUY WISELY!! :)

Yet paying £1100 for insurance isn't a problem?

Bear in mind that a 20VT will do about 27 mpg, and that fuel is about £1 per litre...
Also decent tyres will be about £80-100 per corner, front brake pads are about £80 and so on...

I spent about £3000 on my Coupe in my last year of ownership, and I did about 3000 miles in that time.

i missed the student bit!

People buy these cars are in full time jobs and struggle to meet the costs of running one of these. If you want economy then you shouldn't really be considering a turbo car. A student couldnt afford one of these i'm afraid!

Brake pads for 20VT are £32.24 inc VAT from Brakes international. OE spec as well.(y)

Andy.

when i say student, i am 24 have been working as a leather fitter / trimmer for toyota for 3 years and although at college will still be doing 3 day weeks with £300+ take home a week, so yeah prob can afford it,
though thanks for your interest!!!!

i appreciate that all performance cars require good maintenance, i would buy another mr2 turbo if it wasnt a 2 seater and am also looking for something a few years younger,

have seen on the boards that pinin has answered this one before, but have another question spec for you if you would be kind enough to answer i would be gratefull, will be posted shortly.

anyway thanks for your help, dont mean to sound rude! lol :yum:

"I spent about £3000 on my Coupe in my last year of ownership, and I did about 3000 miles in that time."

Thats rediculas

i dont no why people say it is unreliable and costly:confused: if you buy a decent one then it should be good back(y)

i have had mine for a little over 7 months and have had no problems.lie i had to buy an interior bulb which really broke the bank at £1.19:rolleyes:

as for petrol the coop is far better than the mr2 and so is the build quality. i no coz i had one of these and all i can say is that it is a load of pants compared to the coop

if it pure perfomance you want go fot the 20vt you will not regret it(y)

Youre one of the lucky ones then - whooo hooo

All the coupes i know cost people a fortune because they are getting on - how many miles has your coupe done?

BTW I did 22000 miles on mine - and i can tell you it wasnt cheap. We are talking from experience from quite a lot of owners - not just one.

i have done about 12000 miles in 7 months and it is at 84000.

and all i have spent is petrol tax and doing it up. i realy do not no where people are getting there costs from.

or they have really poor examples:confused:

It cost me in 8 months:

new rad and fittings £200
new manifold and fitting £500
New tyres £400
New breaks - Fitting £300
two wheel bearings £200 plus fitting
odds and sods £600

Thats just at the top of my head. I wouldnt be too cocky if i was you - you could be asking for it :p

sorry i forgot i had a new rad and thermostat £130 for both of them and i fitted them(y)

but looking at your sig you have already killed of 2 fiats:eek:

What a stupid thing to say about something you dont have any idea about.

I wrote off the bravo from my own doing - skidded on ICE.

The coupe nearly killed me as i had new wheel bearing fitted and an investigation said it was the ill fitted bearing that caused the accident. Now i suggest you get your facts right before posting utter garbage about something you know nothing about ! *insert appropriate smillie*

i suggest you look at this before i say something i might regret
