My wife’s 2014 500L died while she was driving last week. I had it towed home and put the code reader on it. It said the camshaft position sensor was bad so I changed it out, still wouldn’t start. It was making a whirring sound when you cranked the ignition. I put a new starter in, charged the battery, and checked the flywheel for damage. Still won’t start and is still making the same sound. Any suggestions?

if its a 1.3d put money on it the timing chain has given way

Still... if the engine is non-interference and your scenario would happen there would be some loud noises when that would happen. We have no reports about any noise, just that the engine stopped while driving.
Plus, with timing belt (or chain) on or off, the CPS picks up the engine revolution while cranking. Here it gives no movement data. My say is it's the sensor.
We are waiting for update news.

So here’s the current situation, I swapped out the Crankshaft sensor and……..no change. The car still won’t start, still making the same sound. Now what?

You've not mentioned what engine this is ?

Can you remove oil filler cap and shine a light down the orifice when cranking and say what you see,

Hi all. I've read most of the posts, the biggest clue to me is the audio on the videos as it doesn't hear any compression, I suspect it's a failed timing chain(1.3 diesel). The first clue was the cam position not correct.

Just tested the compression on all four cylinders and it seems you’re correct, ZERO compression on all. So, does that indicate a faulty gasket or is it a timing chain failure like some others believe?

I’ll be doing that when I get home from work
No chain visible like in some other engines image.jpg
