My wife’s 2014 500L died while she was driving last week. I had it towed home and put the code reader on it. It said the camshaft position sensor was bad so I changed it out, still wouldn’t start. It was making a whirring sound when you cranked the ignition. I put a new starter in, charged the battery, and checked the flywheel for damage. Still won’t start and is still making the same sound. Any suggestions?

I've just watched the latest video, it looks like the cambelt doesn't move or even the camshaft at all. So look down by the cambelt and see if the bottom pulley is turning, if not then you've either brocken a woodruff key in the bottom pulley or the crankshaft behind the flywheel. Very likely the head will need to come off.

At 115,000 miles when was the timing belt last changed.
Looks like the problem is my timing belt. The scope camera I got shows a section of the belt about 3 inches long with no teeth on it. I’m hoping to get it changed out tonight after work. I’ll post an update when it’s done.

Just changing the belt and retiming it may allow the camshaft sensor to sense correctly. However you must check you've had no valve contact with pistons so whilst you have the scope you can take a spark plug out and see the valves.
