I think its very difficult to look at those naked frame shots of the new Panda and imagine what it will look like with panels. Looking at the differences between it and the new Uno can give some clues though. The new Panda is retaining the small rear window and the back doors are smaller than those on the Uno. It does look like they have really shrunk down the rear lights and will be making them compact units like on the Uno and Punto Evo. The boot also looks wider than the current Panda as well. Its impossible to tell what the front will look like with no panels. It wont be long now until all the guessing is over and we will see the finished article. But looking at those latest shots I think it will be a blending of the new Uno and the current Panda. It will make financial sense for Fiat to use some of the parts used on the Uno on the new Panda.

Does it? The Uno is made in Brazil so parts would have to be shipped, or tooling done here for the same parts. Personally I think the styling might be similar, but it won't be the same :)

If they don't have the side moulding in the door and the silly asymetic grille, I thinkb it'll be alright :)

I assumed the FIRE would be made at a central factory anyway and then be imported? I didn't realise the engines were all made in the same factory as the car. If that is the case then you're right.

One of the biggest reasons I bought the Panda though was its simplicity of the engine, I plan to keep it a long time and I know my backstreet machanic can do any work on this engine.

Just read that Italiaspeed article and it would appear that the 1.2 8v engine will still be part of the lineup for the new Panda.

Sounds as though Fiat will be doing something similar as mooted with the 500 (i.e. the TwinAir is going feature in more upmarket models and the 1.2 will feature in basic to mid-range models).

Seems a reasonable idea to me, people are still going to want cheap motoring so there will be demand for the 1.2 for a while yet anyway IMO.

That could twist my arm to upgrade in three years time, however I really do need a bigger boot as since I dented my car I no longer put computers on the back seats.

I've had 8 PC's along with keyboards, mice and powercables in my 500 before so as long as you're careful you're not going to do any damage.

Already have though as you know from my previous post. I have to put computers in my car on an almost daily basis. I will just put them in the boot rather than the side, the problem with putting computers at the side doors is there is little space on the pavement, which is how my dent occurred.

TBH from the sounds of it you just need to be a bit more careful.

If it looks like that orange thing in AB100's link then i'd be worried. The high up small window and Alfa 156/147 style rear door handles make it look awful. If they put the door handles in a conventional position then it'd improve things but i'd prefer to just see the new Uno badged as Panda over here.

Fiat really need to be careful or theyre not going to have anything to sell in the UK before long, seen as it's only the Panda & 500 keeping sales going as it is.

IMO one of the Panda's great selling points is its sheer value for money. The exisiting Panda is perhaps one of the best value new cars on sale in the UK today (provided you buy one with the usual discount) & FIAT need to be careful not to lose that advantage.

I think the current car still has some life left in it & FIAT would do well to consider emulating Renault & maintaining production of the old model, in a basic form, along with the new one.
