I'm looking at buying a 2010 2 litre (165bhp model) bravo sport that I've found relatively locally. It's done 70,000 but has full service history in terms of paperwork, it's just missing the service book itself. It's a good price so considering buying it as it's the colour and model I originally wanted before getting my black dynamic.

Anyhow, are there any known issues with this diesel model that I should look out for/enquire about? i started to read about dpf filters etc when i first entertained the idea of getting a bravo a while ago, but ended up getting a petrol model instead. I cover about 1000 miles a month so I guess I'm probably on the borderline of it being worthwhile getting a diesel. My day to day journey to work is only a few miles each way, but i usually do a long (ish) journey each weekend either for work or down to my girlfriends (200 mile round trip)

You might be ok, but I'd avoid as this is far from ideal for a Diesel car, let alone one with a DPF unfortunately :(

Argh don't tell me that!lol It even has heated seats!!

Is it really going to be that bad? Overall cost to get it will be around £1000: so it'll be 2 years newer, has heated seats and tinted windows which my current dynamic doesnt (as well as leathers, climate, parking sensors, elec windows- basically every extra bar the sunroof).

and factory fitted HIDs ;)

Tbh I wouldnt do it if I were in your shoes, I've a Bravo with DPF but do a 50 mile round trip a day.

Can you explain what sort of issues I may face (and potential costs!)?

I really want it, and am currently looking to change jobs which may entail driving further than my current distance to work (although that's not a consideration for me wanting to buy it).

It's more the fact that for about £1000, I'd get a newer car, in the colour I originally wanted, with the wheels I originally wanted, with the bonus of heated seats and tinted rear windows (yeah, not overly fussed about that last one!).

For info, the car is the sport model, 2010 (60) maserati blue with the 18" wheels, heated seats, parking sensors, electric windows, climate control, rear tinted windows, leathers. 75,000. Just been serviced at 72,000 with cam belt etc done (at a total cost of £620- receipt to prove), has all service history paperwork, MOT'd and taxed until next year......the guy wants £5000.....

Insurance and road tax will also be cheaper by £220 and £75 respectively.

I have had several and not had an issue with dpfs - just make sure you drive it long and hard now and again. Had a Saab diesel with dpf issues - just got the dpf internals removed and remapped , no big deal .

Re: 2010 2litre Bravo- any issues? (DPF etc)

then look for a newer better specced one?

I'm always on the look out, but I've yet to come across many decent tjet 150's with leathers, parking sensors and climate in maserati blue with the 18" wheels, let alone heated seats!

But, I've decided to leave it and use my sensible head. A 6 mile round trip to work 5 times a week definitely won't be good for it, and I don't want to end up with expensive repair bills that may keep repeating on me if I'm not able to find another job any time soon which actually requires a reasonable commute. Having messaged the guy a few times, it does sound like he's looked after it and knows about the DPF's as he runs a DPF cleaner through the fuel a few times a year. (well I guess that means he's looked after it!)

sounds too cheap are you sure it isn't damaged repaired?

Now and again, not really specific enough tbh, but if the engine isnt warming through (which it won't on a 3 mile journey) then its a recipe for disaster. Also not sure where people think hard driving helps DPFs, EGRs maybe, but no issues with a Bravo DPF if driven normally, hard driving doesn't help it from expereince.

Had a Saab diesel with dpf issues - just got the dpf internals removed and remapped , no big deal .

Not quite legal though from what I've seen and cause insurance implications :(

I've a good spec'ed one also :D

I too have a well specced dynamic (parking sensors and leathers as the extras) but i just love the blue with the 18" wheels!

Heated leather seats and front parking sensors are practically the only options my Dynamic hasn't got :)

Didn't even know front parking sensors were an option on the Bravo- I could definitely do with them though, still find it hard to judge even after having it 6 months!

Having seen the price list for the upgrades, I don't know why there aren't more heated seat Bravo's out there. The leathers were about £800ish, with the heated option £175 on top. If you're spending £800, surely you'd spend the extra £175 to get them heated?!

Avoid the 2.0 if you are doing these short journeys is my advice. For the first 9 months I had mine I was doing 10 miles per day, 5 miles each way to work and it definitely wasn't any good for the car. DPF light never came on once but it would regenerate when I was almost at home/work which meant having to drive on another 10 minutes or so until it stopped which wasn't ideal. Now I do 50 miles per day which is well suited to it and DPF regen normally isn't noticeable.

If I went back to doing low mileage again I would definitely look to swap to something petrol.

What I was getting at is there is much unneccessary scaremongering regarding DPFs , they don't as a rule give much aggro and if they happen to it's not a big deal - they reason I stated a good hard drive is that is most likely when it will regen and if it is doing a regen it makes sense to continue driving . I am not sure of insurance implications but I believe it won't fail an mot if it has been dealt with properly and no dash warning lights occur , so can't see why it would be an insurance problem. The 2010 Bravo sport sounds like it is well worth the money and I think Will should not miss out because it has a DPF !

Ok, thanks for the advice. I'm still umming and ahring!
