Technical 2007 Doblo Gear Shift Knob Removal

Need to replace the gaiter on my 2007 Doblo 1.4 petrol and want to remove the shift knob without messing it up. Anyone have a clue? Turn? Pull? Take a hammer to it???? Would really appreciate some help here! Thanks!
