Hi,

Iam new to the site joined to seak some advice.

The clutch went on friday after doing a total of 45,064miles overall i lost all power to the car could smell the burning ect.

Rolled it to a local nationwide garage which was 200yards away.

Told them the problem, they quoted me £275 for a new clutch 2yrs guarantee.

Picked it up saturday drove it home it felt like a new car? BUT i have found it difficult to push into first gear its not smooth as before.

Is this a common problem when a new clutch is installed?

This is my first car and i know sod all about cars as you can tell lol.

Thanks in advance.

I spoke to the bloke at nationwide, and he said it might be like that untill the clutch is bedded in ?

Sounds like aload of rubbish to me. Only connection clutch has with changing gear is it disinguaging the engine from the gear box.

A clutch shouldn't have to bed in. It starts to wear from first use.

If that is the case will it cost more money?

Probably, but not to much I don't think, but this isn't really my fortie with car's

Jon.

Hi,

Okay the punto went in for a service and MOT 1 week after the clutch being changed.

It passed its MOT with flying colours.

The reason it felt rough when changing gear, the guy who filled the clutch box with oil didnt fit the cap on properly so it was pissing oil (the guy at the garage said) so he fixed the cap on and topped the oil up and now its running like a dream again.

Sounds like they are takin the weewee, no oil in a clutch assembly, just hydraulic fluid in the master and slave cylinders, but there is oil in the gearbox... I wonder which cap they actually left off? If it was the clutch master cylinder the fluid may be useless as it absorbs moisture from the air very quickly.
