Hi, I am new to this forum, I would like advice on the best code reader for our 2002 1.6 petrol. Multipla I have a laptop running windows 7 if I use the laptop what leads/adapters, do I need, and what programs/software, do I need, also where do I source these. I am a very competent old school mechanic, I have restored many classic cars, but code reading is very new to me, Thanks Dave.

eBay item number 180924496458 I've had a set for a week and its paid for it self all ready all u have to do is down load software at www.multiecuscan.net for free

Thanks, I have located the reader, I have two lights that came on yesterday, the amber engine light, and the airbag light, I fount the seat belt not fastened cable broken and fixed it, but light still on, not sure this cable would trigger the airbag light anyway. does the airbag light reset itself when a fault is fixed, if not will the code reader reset it. Regarding the amber engine light it is on permanently but car is driving fine, the two lights came on together or almost together, any advice gratefully received, as it will be a week before I get the code reader, Dave.

Have a fiddle around under the front passengers seat there is sometimes a loose wire that causes airbag lights common problem on multipla's look around for other posts with airbag lights ... Engine or safe mode could be any problem until u have a code or some Simptoms I can't help there

Thanks, I have ordered the kit, I came across one shop that has modified the lead to overcome connection problems that I read about, as I live in Ireland, it will be a week or so before I get it, so I will try to download the software I need from the link on this forum, or do I need to wait until I have the kit.! in the meantime I will keep checking connections, I have remade the connections under the driver and passenger side seats, (orange) and fixed the broken seat belt fastened cable under the driver side seat(white) are there any other connections I could fiddle with while I await the arrival of code reader, Dave.

Fiat ecu software can be downloaded with out the kit prob better to get it done now as it takes about an hour to sort its self glad to here ur other faults r sorting em self out

Thanks Pete, unfortunately I have not cured anything, airbag light is still on, as is amber engine light, I thought I was on to something when I found the broken lead, I know it was the seat belt fastened lead because the red seat belt light is functioning again, will this kit, once set up allow me to diagnose and switch off airbag light. Dave.

Even if you have fixed the issue with the airbag light it will need turning off and the fault code cleared before it will stay out.

Maybe ur right about the light I've never known a air bag fault stored wait for the kit and have a look its gonna be a open circuit somewhere

Thanks, I will keep fiddling about until kit arrives, if I have a eureka moment I will let you know. I will probably need guidance when code reader arrives, as I have never used one. Dave.

My friend has a astra and his airbag light came on after he valeted the inside of the car. Long story but it was just a connecter under the seat that was uncliped. He cliped it back in but the Airbag light stayed and and after about a week he asked me to turn it off. I cleared the code and its been off ever since. Im not sure if multiplas are the same but time will tell i suppose

Hi everybody, got the code reader last week, and I finally got it to work. As I said earlier I found a broken cable an repaired it, but light remained on. I cleared the code/codes and light has gone out, so it would appear even when repaired, one needs to remove codes or the light will stay on. I also cleared the engine light, it remained off for a week, but came back on yesterday, I will check tomorrow and update on what codes I find. Dave.

Hi,
I had the same problem as you with airbag light. I disconnected the airbag connection that is located under the passenger seat and reconnected it and light went off. When you have it disconnected check for any corrosion. You could also try an electrical connection spray.
I also had the same problem with engine management light. It turned out to be a faulty sensor in exhaust circuit. But this can be down to a number of things. Someone will have info on codes when you post them. Best of luck with it.

This thread might help:

It's not that hard to spot, so if you've gone as far as removing the seats and you still haven't found it, makes me wonder if someone hasn't been busy with their wire cutters before you got you bought the car.

Just a note to be careful when making/breaking the connector contacts. It's apparently possible (though I can't quite see how) to trigger an airbag by mucking about with its power connection - if you do find the plug it might be as well to disconnect the battery before any cleaning of contacts.
