Hello,

Passenger side lock and boot lock are very difficult to open with key. Boot lock still works with release lever in footwell.

I've tried oiling regularly with 3-in-1 and release oil, but no real improvement.

Wiggling the key side-to-side gets there eventually.

Both door handles stay up and don't return to their down position unless they are pushed.

Any advice? Are the return springs on the handles broken? Is it time just to accept that I'll be entering "Dukes of Hazard" shortly:eek:?

handles on car are probably a linkage sticking

Only way to sort it is to take door card off and have a look around

And the Boot lock - there is a nut on the back of it - make sure its tight
As the lock could be turning with the Key, and not lock moving the mechanism inside it

you could also try soaking the Locks in WD40 for a few hours

Just make sure you have the portable shotguns ready while it soaks :)

Ziggy,
Thanks, I'll check that nut tomorrow.
I've tried soaking in WD40, no joy.
Is it a big deal taking the inner door panel out to see the locks?

btw, your car looks like mine. But in better condition.
Especially now that I've scraped one of the rear arches and given it liberal black hammerite.....any idea where I can get Astral Blue paint for bodywork?

Copper Grease is better as its an anti-seize substance, but its hard to get it into locks
And is messy when you put the now greasy key in your pocket :(

Door cards off = fairly easy tbh :)

There are several linkages that could do with cleaning up :)

Ziggy, on the subject of gearboxes (oops, should really put this as a separate thread....) there is a lag/slight clunk when I bring the clutch pedal up after changing gear, and a sort of sloppiness. Is this gearbox, or clutch,...?
