I have an almost 2.8 turbo Ducato, actually it's a 2005 HDi Boxer but, very similar to the Ducato.

35,000 miles (you guessed it, a motorhome :D )

At high engine loads, >3000RPM, 3rd 4th 5th gears, uphill, full throttle; the engine management light is coming on, and going out again when the throttle is released, road levels out etc.

My friendly commercial garage mech has read the ECU codes, which are:

P0235 - Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor Circuit
P0500 - Vehicle Speed Signal
P1555 - Brake Inconsistent With Accelerator
U1600 - Coded Start Security

Ive found out that the P0235 relates to the turbo, I've already changed the air and fuel filters, made no difference, so I'm thinking that it must either be a turbo peripherals/hose/blockage problem, or that the turbo is on its way out.

Where should I be looking if it's an actuator etc?

There's possibly a slight turbo whistle at higher revs, is this likely to be an air leak maybe, if so where's the most likely.

Thanks, and apologies for the forum invasion guys.:D

Sounds like wastegate could be sticking or the actuator hose or actuator is leaking and your overboosting you should monitor the boost pressure while you're going up a hill and see. If you have an android phone you can use the alfaobd demo with a Bluetooth elm327 adapter from eBay costing a tenner or so.

Thanks, I have both Torque Pro and Carista (full version) on my Nexus 5 and Hudl 2, with an ELM327 BT adapter.

This combo works fine on my'08 Volvo V50 and wife's '08 Touran, but the ELM327 continuously connects/disconnects when I try to run Torque connected to the Boxer's port, and it also says "unable to access ECU" - Carista just reports "No Errors".

I'm assuming that this is either because the 2005 (registered, but who knows when the chassis was built?) Boxer isn't fully OBD2 compliant, or because the ELM adapter isn't one of the best variants (bought off eBay).

Looking at the boost was one of the things I was looking forward to with Torque. :(

I had to ask a professional mechanic to plug his diagnostics in to get the fault codes I listed.

Is it more likely to be overboost or lack of boost, I've found quite a few similar questions about temporary EM light faults like mine, with a Google search, but never with a firm resolution.

I don't want to give in yet, to the likely "it needs a new turbo mate" from a Pug dealer.

Torque doesn't work hence the recommendation for alfaobd its in the play store.

alfaobd demo connects to the ELM327 but it asks for a 5 digit 'code card' number to access the ECU, I don't think that I have a code card. :(

You don't need code card to read live data and error code only to make chabges to the ecu like adding keys. Just click connect then swipe right youll have to options to read error codes and plot live data

Ahhh, that's why I thought it needed the code, it can't connect to the ECU :( :

Ignition on?

When you can't connect:
-bring phone / tablet closer to the elm unit
-turn off the ignition-
-unplug/replug the elm unit
-ignition on
-reconnect the bluetooth interface
-select Ducato 244 -> Engine -> Diesel Bosch EDDC15
-click connect

If you still can't connect increase the interface timeout to 140ms in the settings.

Yes ignition on, alfaobd shows the adapter connected, but as soon as I enter the vehicle details as above X244/engine/EDC15, it goes to the connect page.

At first attempt it shows a message about 1st fast communication, then says as in the pic, "no reply from interface".

I tried altering the timeout to 140mS and even longer and shorter - no joy.

:(

If it was a fast init error you can try changing the kw2000 init time.
Baud rate of the adapter might be too low of you may have an old firmware in your fake elm chip or just a duff fake elm.

I think I'm wasting my time with this BT adapter, I opened it up and it has a generic PIC18 with no proprietary marking, which suggests that it's one that's ripped off from the early ELM V1, before they were copy protected.

In the meantime, I've ordered some Archoil engine and turbo cleaner, as my feeling is that it might be the variable geometry that's not working properly, the previous owner was an old lady who only did about 1000mpa in the van.

Can't hurt, except my pocket, but then it has a no quibble guarantee so...

v1.2 was delidded and copied also I have two that work ok and an old one that very flaky.

This one works ok:

Are you sure you have a VNT only the 146hp version had and hardly any were sold. If you have vnt you need to look at the requested vs actual pressure could be the vacuum solenoid is stuffed.

Thanks, but I don't want to buy one that might not be UK based, takes too long :(

No, I just assumed it was variable geometry, because that's what I was told by a Peugeot garage, probably hadn't got a clue themselves. :D
I'm pretty sure it's the 128hp version.

Second one is uk hemel hempstead feedback says very prompt delivery.

OK, I got the BT adapter today.

Success, it connects to alfaobd demo and to the ECU (y)

Now, what do I do with it?

If I ask it to set up new gauges, it gives an error message, and there are no logs that I can see.

I need some eejit guidance...:bang:

:D

PS, I opened the fuel cap today, after the van has been standing for a few days.

The ambient temp has dropped here and I noticed that the fuel tank is holding a vacuum, there was a suction hiss as I released it.

That can't be good, I wonder if that's the problem, I don't know how the tank/cap is supposed to be vented.

I got AlfaOBD Demo working, with some help from the developer, and it certainly reads some of the engine data, including the 4 data graphs that I'm able to use with the demo version.

What parameters should I be monitoring to check the turbo, I have a fault code P0235?

Thanks
