Hallo all. In my stupidity I have bought a 2.2jtd which turns out to have no cat or Fap as it has been removed. Car ran fine for first 200 miles or so then antipollution warning came on. This was when the no cat and fap discovered. Also the turbo diaphragm had broken. Diaphragm fixed and worked fine again for about 6 miles then anti pollution warning again. Very little boost, but will cruise fine on a flat road at 70mph. Anyone got any suggestions?

I hope someone can help, otherwise we may have another one to break for spares!!
many thanks.

Also I take it the cat and Fap unit from a 2.0 jtd wouldn't fit - there is one closeish to me which is for sale as a non runner.

Well a stunning response to that one......

Anyway, will share what I have done. Had the ecu remapped to take account of no dpf filter - and they handily programmed it to give 20% extra power and torque (they said). Anyway, it now shows no faults, pulls like a locomotive and I would have to recommend this is the way to go for anyone having problems with their dpf...... can give you the contact for the company who did the work - they are UK wide - if anyone is interested.

Hi,

I currently have a Ulysse 2.2 Jtd (2003) with a blown turbo. We are awaiting the parts as I write. I am very interested in what you have done regarding the DPF as we have been plagued by the constant warning messages and more recently with the dreaded limp mode. We are not sure if the DPF problem and the turbo problem are connected - although the turbo blew after 15 minutes of me driving at 4000rpm to try and clear the DPF!!

My plan was to drill a hole or two through the DPF filter to try and get the flow roughly the same as when it was new, hopefully fooling the system into thinking that all is well. I was hoping that a remap would not be necessary if we get the back pressure about right. Any thoughts?

Where did you get the work done?
Thanks

I posted a while ago about claing my DPF.
Car now on over 100K miles and been getting DPF warnings for the last 2 years or so. Very intermittent at first and normally held at bay by some high reving driving on motorway but the gap between was getting shorter.
Had new FAP fluid around 70K miles I think.

So earlier in the year I removed the DPF and it was clogged with soot. Not easy to clean but I did flush loads out and manually cleared the inner cores as best I could.
All good for 5 K miles or so and 6 months then warnings started again.
New DPF is around £170 and easy to fit (20 mins work)
But I decided to take off the old one and using a lrge masonary drill (need to be over a foot long) punched 5 finger sized holes through the ceramic DPF honey comb. Re-installed and all running fine with no warnings.
Too early to see if this wil cause any issues with the turbo or anything else and to be honest with 100+ K miles on the clokc it's hard to knwo what may cause the next issue but it seems to be ok.

Thanks Pat H - do you have an update? Is it still running ok without errors and without limp mode?

Hi Lanciaman
Who did the remapping for you?
Was it an expensive job?
Thanks

Yes running fine. No warnings no limp mode. Just behaving as it should.
A tad more black smoke out the back if I toe down on pull away but thats to be expected.

Hi, can't recall the name of the company, but it cost £200. Car has been fine ever since. Anti pollution fault warning came on again after 1000 miles or so, but no performance issues. Bloke at the firm said it is probably because the DPF sensor is still plugged in and to remove that - which I haven't tried yet. If you are keen to know the company I have the blokes email address and can get it from him.

I have an ecu and a bypass pipe from a 2002 car which was ok but broken due to a clutch problem - not all 2.0 had the DPF but I believe they are the same.

Thanks for your help everyone. The car is back on the road with a drilled DPF and no problems to report yet. Driven 300 or so trouble free miles.

However, the replacement turbo has whistled the whole time. I suspect that this is either a problem with the turbo or a characteristic of it.

Is there any chance that the holes in the DPF would make the turbo whistle? It sounds like a distant police siren when revved and can be heard by pedestrians! The noise seems to be coming directly from the turbo area (roughly between front wheels, under dash) rather than out of the exhaust - although you can obviously hear it at the exhaust.

Any thoughts?

The turbo on mine has whistled since new and is now at 103 K miles and whistles as much as it ever did. The DPF drilling didn't make any difference to the noise.
Maybe you were lucky and had a quite one before or maybe some are just noisier than others.
