Technical 100HP Front Suspension

Technical 100HP Front Suspension

The car sat unreasonably low at the front so the MoT advice chimed with the look of the car. My mistake was failing to measure the existing springs before buying new. Putting spacers between the top bearing and the spring top mount improved the ride height (though not to my taste) and trapped the springs more effectively. I never got around to getting it to an OEM ride height.

I've had halve my front B6 order since January, been waiting since to get the LHS B6 22-235626 :(
I keep getting told the factory in Germany keep pushng back the production of the 100hp spec B6's (current end of October)

I guess as numbers decline
And amount on Sorn increases

Demand will fall to a point to where its not worth tooling up

There can't be many good original ones left now. Most will be carrying the scars of too many owners, too much hard driving and too little maintenance.

Those few good ones are probably better kept as classics (they may be one day), rather than used as daily drivers. If I had a mint low miles 100HP, I wouldn't want to be using it on UK winter roads.

Anyone wanting an older, cheap daily driver would be far better off with a 1.2; no expensive hard to source specialist parts, £35tax, cheaper insurance & better fuel economy.

The 100HP was tremendous value in its day, but I don't think it makes much sense for the average person to buy any of the typical used ones still around now.

Totally agree. Simple 1.2 Dynamic, with no aircon, on steel wheels is the way to go for seriously cheap motoring.

On the other hand, I have a well maintained (well, relatively) original low(ish) mileage 100hp, with no dents, no sill corrosion and interior and exterior plastics in good condition, all on OEM suspension and running gear.
Unfortunately the paint is wrecked (fading, lacquer peel) and it is therefore almost worthless on the second hand car market.
It's unlikely it will ever be worth a respray.
I could break it for way more than I paid for it, but I won't because it's fun to drive.
I've been stocking up on some of the hard to find 100hp parts for a while (originally this one was going to be a parts car) so I should be able to keep it running for a good while yet.

(I've also got a nearly immaculate 42k mile black one with good paint and the pick of my 100hp spare parts that needs putting back together when I get round to it. If they do ever become sought-after classics then it is definitely in with a shout)
