Needed to do the breaks.

Fronts are easy enough (apart from being supplied the wrong discs :( 70 mile round trip tomo to correct)

The rears. I have the whhel off, caliper off, pads out (0.5mm left!). I have removed the top M8 hex bolt from the carrier, but the bottom one is proving a nightmare.

I can't get an M8 hex in due too obstruction. I just about forced it in, at an angle and have now almost stripped it

How have people reoved this lower bolt? Am I doing something stupid? Is there a special tool for the job?

Cheers for any help :)

Kristian

I've been wanting to help but cannot picture where you are in dismantling the rear brakes from your description.
Could you post photos that might clarify the situation?

I'll post up a picture. Just needed to go out and buy a decent hex key i think though. Def stripped the bolt though, so thats gonna make matters a bit more of a pain.

I also went to replace the discs and the replacements were the same thickness. 18.2mm min, whereas I'm sure these discs are 20.2mm min.

On order from somewhere else now, so hopefully they will be the right size.

Cheers,

Kristian

I believe that the 100HP should be fitted with 22mm thickness front discs (wear limit 20.2mm) which is the same size as fitted to my Panda Cross.
The 1.1 and 1.2 models have solid 11mm discs and the petrol-engined 4x4 and 2WD diesel have 20mm ventilated discs.
Rear discs are solid 11mm on all models fitted with them.

Yep, thats what I thought, though 3 pacakges from QH supplied the wrong disc. Good job I noticed. The model and part nubmers were correct, but the wrong disc is in their database it appears.

Discs on order somewhere else now. Hope they are from a different supply. If not, due to time constraints, its off to main dealer as they carry stock :|

Did all 4 of mine last saturday as it happens. The lower hex bolt is a bugger as it is shrouded by the lower hub bracket and to release it you need an 8mm Hex Bit with a slightly longer shaft than normal - this allows the ratchet to clear the bracket. Something like this;

Halfords do something similar and it's cheaper.

If you don;t have one already, you'll also need a Caliper Wind-In Tool to retract the piston back into its housing. It's on a thread and is a 6-hand job without the very handy tool;

Good luck!

I found a cheaper "cube" piston windback tool such as this

http://tinyurl.com/ylbl84h

effective on the rear disc brakes of a Panda 4x4.

The difficulty with the lower hex bolt is coming back to me but I was lucky enough to already have some socket type hex keys which I could attach an extension bar and socket wrench to.
If the hex bolt is damaged you may need to grip it with Mole grips to undo it then replace with a new bolt.

Cheers :)

The lower bolt is out now, thank goodness.

I tried winding the pistons by hand, but no joy (i have had success on other callipers), so i'm off to factors to buy a tool.

What direction of roation are they to wind in, do you remember?

Thanks again :slayer:

I'll take a few snaps doing the second side, and maybe do a lil guide.

Cheers,

I have done them before, but couldn't on these, so I bought a Laser tool from HAlfords, £25 is a bit steep, but it had to be done today, and it worked a charm.

All done now :)

I forgot to take piccies in the end.

Thanks for all the help everyone :) :slayer:

Just a quick one. I had my rear discs and pads changed a week ago. The rear left squeaks when turning right and sometime when driving slowly. Its driving me mad. Should i wait a few miles in the hope it disappears or go back to the garage? Thanks a lot.

Has anyone got a part no. for the Panda 100hp rear caliper carrier bolt. As per thread here I think it's an M8 head. No joy finding them from first Google. Thanks S

A brake that rubs when you are changing direction suggest a wheel bearing issue. Check it for lateral and top to bottom play. There should be none. Rear wheel bearings are dirt cheap fonts are not too bad but you need a tool to fit them.

My LH rear caliper gave me all sorts of trouble with binding (and a leak after I tried to rebuild it. A Paget service exchange caliper problem solved. I think the hand brake mechanism was sticking inside the caliper but never managed to get it apart to confirm.

I would take it back, it should not squeak and it's unlikely to go away on it's own.

I would go to Fiat parts dept and ask them for the bolts, they will give you the correct ones and they are only a couple of quid.

Thanks. Ive sorted via Glyn Hopkin Fiat in MK. Parts aren't in stock and will be shipped in from Italy. I'll post the parts no & cost here when they land. Ta S.

Thanks for the reply. Yes they look identical, but without parts no. wasn't 100%. I've ordered through Fiat direct and shipping in from Italy. Will post parts no. and cost back here. Ta S.

I believe these bolts are P/N 46417117, I had problems with one when I changed the discs on my 100HP. :)
(I'll edit this post in the morning when I can get at my receipts for the supplier and cost)

OK so I couldn't edit my last post but I bought the bolts from Eurocarcare And their P/N is ECC46417117 and so I don't have the problem in the future I bought a set of extra long hex bits (US PRO 2084):)
