Any one done a cam belt change on a 1.9JTD 105SX? I have a Y reg which is long overdue a cam belt. I noticed from another thread that JTDman had some pics and instructions for a 1.9 jtd 115 engine. are they just the same:confused:
Is it easy enough to do? All the usual suspects that I get to do work for me are shuffling their feet and making "busy" excuses. Should I just pay the £450 to get it done from the local fiat man? let me know.
Just put the clutch in so feeling like I know the car but 'hey' you never know, don't want to wreck my engine...:yuck:

Mine was a 105sx same as yours;) really easy if you have done the clutch.

Are the pics and instructions you posted for a 105sx timing belt?

Sorry im not really with it at the mo ive got a real bad eye infection so im sporadic to say the least, you talking about the ones from a manual?
If so they are from an autodata cd and yes they are right but i think it over complicates it really. If you mark all the pulleys and even the existing belt you should be fine, i locked the belt bywedging a prybar in the flywheel at the bottom front section.
I changed various seals around the belts as i had a small leak but if your doing the camshaft seal be carefull as its really easy to mark the shft taking the old one out.
If i was doing it now id change the belt / water pump/ belt idler and tensioner as any of these can and do fail meaning total engine loss apart from the pump but you would have to replace all off them again to do it.
The only special tools i required was the pry bar and a large screwdriver;)

where the tensioner bolts to there is a hole where the special tool goes into (like a key) and when its twisted it adjusts the tensioner this was done with the screwdriver youll see what i mean when you get there, one tight as you want tighten the nut on the tensioner.

Ill try and keep checking in as im off work because of the eye but mainly sleeping(n).

Just done it last weekend. It is as eay as JTDMan said. BUT I made a school boy error as the belt was mega stretched and jumped a tooth as I tried to line up the top and bottom timing marks. Top one lines up but the bottom does not need to........(n). Discovered that one tooth out means a lot of clanking and noise as the valves pass air back out the air intake:bang:. Jumped the belt one tooth back and hey presto its going a treat and it sounds sweet(y). Bolts on these cars don't like copper slip grease for some reason and seem to strip easy. Cheers

Ive allways been weary of cambelts as its so much at risk but as long as you turn the engine over by hand a few times before you start it then there should be no problems.
