General 1.6 16v engine change

hi all,
was wondering if the engine block on the 1.6 16v auto 1999/2000 is the same as a 2004 x-reg 1.6 16v manual...

There is something wrong if its a 2004 x reg but if its a 2000 then yes the block should be the same. i think it will only be the fly wheel that is different

Cheers for that.... the car is my brothers and i gotta do an engine swap 2moz, Not too familiar with Marea's more of a Tipo boffin.. The car is a s-reg auto and we picked up an engine out of a w reg manual,(not an x reg) sorry...
I havn't seen both engines together yet but my brother says they both look completely different?? any ideas if it will still fit?? dazzo..

stick by jug's rule, if the top manifold covers are the same (i.e both plastic because the later brava/o's and mareas had plastic inlet manifolds) then it will fit but if the inlet manifold on your bro's one is metal then they will probably not fit i know for a fact that the ecu's are different on the mark 1 and mark 2 (mark 1 has the metal inlet manifold and the mark 2 has the plastic inlet manifold) hope this helps, also there are online manuals at this site

i think you would have to swap the wiring as well i remeber asking a similar question once and that was how i found out there are very few compatible parts between mark 1 and mark 2 the map sensors are different, the ecu's and quite a few other things.

Well we done the engine change with lots of problems, Cant go into detail to much or id be here all day, Basically Me and my brother spent 2 days solid around 20hrs doing the swap.... Basically a mk1 is totally diferent in every way to the mk2 even the bell housing bolt pattern is different on the auto box.........

the rules make life easier

an S reg is mk1, a W reg is mk2, so it was bound to be a pain in the arse.

Yes you aint kidding pain in the arse it was.....,
So have a spare 1.6 16v engine for sale now....
